I recently replaced the power steering pump in my 2001 SLE with a junk yard pump. It whines pretty bad when taking a hard left or hard right. Do you think the system just isn't bled correctly? It there a special sequence to bleed it correctly? Maybe it is just a bad pump?

The other thing is I replaced the pump and belt tensioner at the same time, now if I have to remove the pump I'd rather not drain the coolant again and remove the tensioner but it doesn't appear the pump will come out with the tensioner in place, will it come out the bottom of the car?

It whines pretty bad when taking a hard left or hard right. Do you think the system just isn't bled correctly?Typical symptoms of air in the system! With the front wheels off the ground & engine running, turn the steering wheel all the way to right (do not force) then back to the left (do not force). Do this several times and let it sit for a few minutes, then check fluid level (top off if necessary). Drive the car and repeat the procedure if necessary.

Yeah I tried that with no luck. Got a different pump now it works perfect. The pump went in and out by removing the coolant reservoir.
