Do our cars have starter Interlock

It does start with a quick flick of the key, but starter interlock cancels signal of sending power to the starter when the engine is running to prevent grinding of the starter against flywheel. In the link below explains a little on this I think we all will find interesting.

Don't mean to rain on the parade here, but I would have been kind of surprised if it didn't. I could be horribly wrong, but haven't cars featured some kind of starter lockout system since the 80s? I'm surprised the article makes such a big deal of it, is that the best thing they could find to say about the 3.5? lol

Thanks for sending that link along. It was nice to read about when these cars were new. Too bad Olds got killed.

It has it

I have bumped the key right after the engine started and it still grinded the starter

Im not going to test it on purpose but Im fairly certain either myself or my mom has engaged the starter on my car with it running.

I know for a fact that my 96 Bonneville did not have it because I remember doing it on accident a couple times, because the thing was so quiet!

Well, my car does have it. And yes, I did try on purpose.

I tried it on my 2000 as well and nothing happened. The cluster just goes out.

I also tried it on my sisters '99 Grand Am and it ground the starter! I couldn't believe it, I thought for sure starter lockout was a common feature on late model cars. What are we, cave men?

My 98 Intrique has the starter interupt and the traction control they were advertising for the 99 model.

Could we have the late 98 models?
