Oxygen Sensor and Plugs

I have a bad O2 sensor, (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Front drivers side, Correct? I am wondering if it is worth the extra money to get an OEM from the dealer or if the aftermarket will perform just fine?

I'm assuming AC-Delco plugs unless someone thinks different?

I would only replace the upstream HO2 sensor, and have no problems with the after market other than connectors.

you can purchase the a/c delco O2 sensor of the correct application for a reasonable cost with out sensor wire issues...as well as other manufacturers...
these vehicles are very sensitive and closely monitored so getting the correct sensor is a smart move ..
the sensor you mentioned is the correct location..I would replace both upstream O2 sensors ....first I would swap these upstream sensors to ensure that this is indeed the problem as the code will show the passenger side is not working correctly ...

since the O2 in the driverside is in a tight location wire issues are common ....make sure this is not a wire issue...

don't go to dealer toooo expensive !

when you say check wires because of tight location do you mean they maybe pinched or hole wore through the coating or something of that nature.

correct ....this is a common area where this is occuring ...If someone screwed with the sensor at some time the connector fasteners usually get damaged on removal..then the wires get hurt..

most have reported contact with the exhaust caused wire damage...

When removing the oxygen sensor on 03 chevy do you have remove the bigger plug or the smaller one going into the end of the larger one? Also how do you remove the black plastic push pin that holds it in place?

I would start at the passenger side that is easier to see...use of long nose pliers to squeeze the locking tab to release.. the plug to remove is the one closest to the sensor...


when you get this figured out run engine to heat up the exhaust pipes then after the pipes are hot shut down the engine and remove connector to unscrew the sensor....I usually loosen both when hot, then after cool down , go for complete removal . safer...

On the AC Delco website it shows pre and post converter but they are all the same part number. Also when you put them in the cart they come up as the same one no matter which one you put in the cart.

on my 2000 sil 5.3L they are all the same sensor all 4....same connectors ..simple..upstream do all the work..the down stream only monitor the cat coverters for proper operation...these will not effect performance but if bad you will not pass the emission test...
