Just started this build and this is my work so far.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160695.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160694.jpg

Seat is done with flower and painted over, the backseat is glassfibered and I,ve made the safetybelts.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160693.jpg

For the cockpit I did a lot of scratchbuilding with BMF and real aluminum.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160691.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160690.jpg

Also in the enginebay I did a lot of scratchbuilding. It still isn't finished yet.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160688.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC160689.jpg

I carefully cut out the right door so the detail inside is good to see.

That's it for now, hope you enjoy. Till my next update.

Really nice work eric, love the body finish!

When it comes to decals over panel lines I have the following questions....

1. Have you already painted the panel lines with a wash before applying the decals over panel line areas?

2. When you have applied the decal over a panel line and it has dried are you using an exacto knife to cut the decal and then some strong solvent over the decal to make it snug into the panel line crevice?

I've always been confused by this.

Keep it up! :grinyes:

Hi Turboguru, in answer to your questions;

1. I never paint panel lines, it just doesn't look real. I just deepen them with a scraper, needle and knife.

2. During decalling I use soft decal softener and carefully use a hairdryer. After the are fully dry I cut them with a new exactoknife and then I use again decalsoftener (soft) and carefully work them in with quetips and a sharp toothpick.

I hope this will be usefull for you, thanks for your comment.

Looks good. Do you have any detail you can share regarding the door hinge design that you used?

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170701.jpg

For the enginebay I used different kind of aftermarket items. Most important set is the great set from SMS with the CD-ROM for good reference pictures

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170696.jpg

The SMS Combi set.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170698.jpg

Also used pe-sets from Studio 27 and Acu-Stion. Strange thing is that a pe wiper is missing from the SMS set. Anyway I have enough stuff for the scrapbox.

To Millersbrm, for the doorhinges I used for the hinge the SMS pe-part on the door and the roof. They also have a pe-part for the lower side of the car but I couldn't figure out how to do it. So I decided to use a thin wire for the lower side of the door. I bored a small hole where the wire is fitted in. In this way the can be showed with the door fully open. Here are some pictures....

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170702.jpg

SMS doorhinges.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170705.jpg

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/PC170704.jpg

The small wire for the lower part of the car. Just slide it in and the door is open.

I hope this will help you Millersbrm.

Eric thanks for the tips they will certainly go a long way into helping all of us with our future models.

I recently began scribing panel lines and at first I thought I went wayy too deep... but once the paint had been applied it looked really good, the panel lines looked dark enough under the natural light meaning I didn't really need to apply a wash.

I asked the question because I was wondering if deep scribing is enough for a white body colour.... clearly it is

I have Microset/MicroSol for decal application, so yes I'll use the 'SOL' to get the decal to snuggle down... I think with MicroSol you are supposed to apply it over the decal and then leave it alone.....So I don't know if I could use a hairdryer.... it might upset the process when using microsol...no?

I've made some progress on the engine-part. All the wiring is done and I've made areducts and stands for the cooling of the rearbreaks.

In the cockpit the pedals are installed.

Now it's on to the final clearcoat and the painstaking polishing. But first I going to do the dashboard.

Until then, Eric

Detail is amazing, the seat looks decent. I've had similar results, you should defenitly try microballons. Thanks for sharing.

Turboguru, painting panel lines before decals is a must. Because if you paint after decals you risk paint lodging itself beneath the decal.

Depends where you are from, try searching near where you live. Sometimes they have them at local hobby stores.

But heres some links:

http://www.alumilite.com/index.cfm Go to the product page (dyes/fillers)

Heres a tutorial:

And here are the results thanks to a great modeler Robrex:

Great work...Just love the Porsche 956's and any Group C cars for that matter...Well I have a few 956's to make myself and just wondered how you made the rear brake ducting and now you attached them...

ewestra

Hi SuperDan180,

Thanks for your comment. I've made the rear breakducts from solder and gas-tape. Just wind some solderwire around a plastic tube and after that I've wrapped the gas-tape. The stands were made out off copper rods and plastic plate. I will post some pictures tomorrow so you can see for yourself.

As promissed a little tutorial about how to make your own brakeducts. Now first this technique I saw on this or another forum so I won't take credit for this, it's someone else's idea.

These are the items you need. Solder (choose wich diameter you want to use), some rod or any other item that is round (choose diameter), gas tape, I don't know how it's called in other country's.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220795.jpg

Now wrap the solder around the rod you choosed.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220796.jpg

Take a piece off the gastape and wrap this around the solder wich is still on the rod.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220797.jpg

Like this...

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220800.jpg

Cut the solder with the tape from the rod and simply slide it form the rod.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220801.jpg

...and there it is, your own brakeduct.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220802.jpg

The gastape will not take paint. But I,ve found out that permanent markers will do the job. You can get them in different colours. In this tutorial I used red and black.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/ewestra/P1220803.jpg

I hope this was off any help and good luck.

Excellent work you have here, and a great tutorial on making brakeducts! Makes me want to start building my 956 as well. May I ask what stencil did you use to paint the letters on the tyres? I've been looking for stencils with both "Dunlop" and "Denloc" but couldn't find any.

Cheers

Nam

Hello Nam,

For the Dunlop Denloc I used templates from Acustion Porsche 956. I ordered this from Bestbalsakits in Belgium www.iaiamedia.be (http://www.iaiamedia.be). This Item is now out off stock, but there is also a single template to make the lettering on the tires.

When it comes to the wiring and pipes in the engine bay...did you use aftermarket products or make them yourself...

ewestra
01-23-2010, 05:13 AM
SuperDan180; the aeroquip connectors are aftermarket (I believe Detail Master), the braided hoses I made them myself. I use solderwire and go back and forth with an diamondfile to get the richt texture. The enginewires are from MFH. The hoses from the oilcatchtank is solderwire coverred with surgicaltape (Hansaplast), painted black and carefully wrapped thin copperwire. That's it really.
