My Silverado has 159k miles on it, and my tachometer has stuck
on it. It reads 2k rpm all the time..Any idea why it is stuck and not working, is this a harness issue, or a crank sensor issue.

It may be the little servo motor for the needle itself. GM has a fleetwide issue with IP gauges going nuts or not functioning correctly due to poorly designed servo motor for those year vehicles (2003-2005). The gauge cluster can be sent out and have the motors replaced with an updated design (yes, have them all done) for ~$70 minus shipping. I've done this on my Envoy (it's had a cluster replacement before I owned it!) and been good so far. Good luck!

It's a common problem on 03-06 silverado's,tahoes etc... Happened to me on my 04 silverado(86,000 miles),started with the speedo then the tach. i checked with the dealer and they claim they are covered under an extended warranty but only to 80,000 miles.they wanted 400+ bucks to repair it!!! i sent my cluster to guy near me in wisconsin that repairs them. he replaces all the motors behind all the gauges for 125.00 and guarantee's them! he had it back to me in a couple days. let me know if you need his contact info.

I think I have the same problem. Please let me know the contact info for the guy close to you in WI that does the repair. I live in Wisonconsin Rapids so probably close to this guy as well.

Thanks
