Has anyone retrofit 35 gallon tank to 2500HD 6' shortbox?

I'm interested in upgrading my fuel tank in my duramax equipped 2500HD with the short box. It came with the 26 gallon tank. I'm looking for a 35 gallon tank from the long box to retrofit back into its place. Has anyone ever done this? Is it even possible? Besides a massive auxiliary tank in the box, what is another alternative, assuming this 35 gallon doesn't fit?

I haven't seen the larger tanks, but I'm going to guess that you need the extra bed length to accommodate the higher capacity. And since they're plastic, you can't cut & trim it. You could try fashioning one out of stainless steel, but that requires some expensive material and knowing someone who'll weld it up for you.

Titan makes big aftermarket fuel tanks for 2001+ GM diesels, but they're not cheap.

Interestingly they even give a cost justification since the added range lets you plan your fill-ups more wisely, but it really is just for more convenience and flexibility.

Just found another aftermarket site that's a little cheaper and give greater capacity (45 gallons):

Hope this helps!
