2009 Peugeot 908: The Lions roar to Le Mans glory

I'm still working on the Aston Martin DBR9 08 LM winner (still struggling with the kit), I wanted to really get this guy going.

I thought I was gonna need to bring at least one more build to the Ferrari Expo this coming April (so the deadline is the 24th I believe), so this is gonna be a very delicate build of the winning Peugeot 908 that ended Audi incredible streak of dominance at Le Mans. I was also very blessed to get to see the 908 at Petit ealier this year and almost got hit by it as they were pulling the car out of the garage with a golf cart. but with that I got some up close pics of the car and having a good spot in needing to fix the front window

This is a Studio 27 kit and was limited to only 200 kits worldwide (according to StradaSports).
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4260.jpg

the car ran a different aero package at La Sarthe from the previous years
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4263.jpg

all the parts are in order and in check, not too many, but all have to be in carbon just about (including the body)
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4269.jpg

the decals are not bad, I wish they were cartograf, but life goes on
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4270.jpg

the big problem is the chrome decals, everyone is broken
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4273.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4274.jpg

but not to really worry, S27 included a Chrome decal sheet and a template sheet (I bought an extra just in case  )
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Peugeot%20908/100_4276.jpg

let the fun begin.

cheers,
Steve

next update will be the test fitting

I've just bidded on a SMS Audi R10 so that will be my first Le'mans R1 class car.

I always wondered if the whole body was unpainted Carbon. Cant wait to see what you do!!!

Hey Steve,

Yes! Another one I'll be keeping an eye on. I have this one too but highly doubt it'll even get started by the Ferrari expo. Was trying to decide whether or not to try to CF the whole thing, I'll let you be the Guinea Pig!

Are you going to fill the panels lines on the front wing which aren't on the real car in your photo.

Hi

If you need pics of which way the carbon fibre points just ask. They are not one uniform direction all over the car!

Robert, just sent the order out to SMS for the decals :lol2: got 5 just to be safe.

Are you going to fill the panels lines on the front wing which aren't on the real car in your photo.

I'm not really sure which panel lines are you talking about, for the little aero pieces on the sides, I know Peugeot only ran the one on the bottom and I filled the top one.

I was able to get alot of closeup shots of the Peugeot in the Paddock earlier this year, although if you have any cockpit views, that would really help me out.

I had to scribe some new panel lines in both of the front wheel arches as S27 forgot to put them in.

I also have both side mirrors, wheel arch covers, and wheel arch ground effects carboned, I have already used around one full sheet, got a fresh set of SMS carbon coming soon :D

but while waiting, gonna start working on the brakes, race seat, interior, rear wing (and supports). as well as prepping the main body, alot to still come

I mean near the 'P1' marking on the front wing.
on your photos the floor of the car seems to be a solid piece of carbon fibre.
However, the model has panel lines and rivet holes. I can't see these panel lines and rivet holes on your photos of the real car.

ok, Peugeot factory teams ran a different aero package at Lemans in 2009 and it was the only time they ran that package.

the one they ran at Petit (which was the real photo) was the 2008 and normal package Peugeot has run. I can assure you that panel line was on the Le Mans version car, the panel lines Studio 27 missed were already corrected by me on the front wheel arches, I don't believe the line going straight down is correct but it was to late when I saw it and I only hope near all is not visible in final assembly.

haha mike, actually with the car not being an F1 car, the decals for almost the whole body are flat which makes for very easy templates, I just traced the designed and cut, pretty easy

The start of the livery

The chrome decals are pretty good, its a pain still especially around the front headlights, luckily I only have to do one more. I did the best I could on a very complex shape of the front headlight.

it stinks that S27 made the blue way too dark, the blue should be much lighter.

2nd front wheel arch is finished, This one was more of a nightmare as the both White decals ripped while carefully working on them, also the chrome section behind the tire crinkled bad while working with both decals, I had to cut the bad one out, and cut to perfect size a new one, I think it went ok all bit for one spot, I can't complain because it still looks pretty good.

thanks Mike, I would only screw it up if I did :lol2: but I believe some of the more experienced painted could do it. I'm just not that skilled enough to do a paint job like that.

ashman, yeah it was the decals, S27 screwed that one up, they also didn't use cartograf decals (which was odd with a limited kit).

Great build, at last another 908 Builder! I am just loving the detail!
I have made quite a few as slot cars and have noticed that s27 took the easy way out on some of the detail.... Most disturbing is the length of the rear fender. It seems that s27 used the same parts for 07, 08 and 09 where as on 09 the fender was a lot shorter and the air intake pod was modified for that reason. The interior is probably the old version too.

Your car is coming along great! Well done!!!

the half cover, in the race itself, the cover was not on, so leave it off for the race version.

I just like how the Renaissance version is just more properly done instead of S27, although the one little problem I've seen with some of the instructions on the kit is some of the pieces like the mirror supports, steering wheel, and a few other pieces that are not suppose to be photoetched and that thin.

I'll be able to get a few pics of what the inside looks atleast from the directions

ok finally made some progress on the interior, no where near 100% perfect as S27 used the 2007 chassis "which was prolly still wrong also" I went off as few of the references I had and followed some of the Renaissance-Models instructions on their 908 kit.

anyway I still like it

finally the cockpit is just about finished, have to add some wiring after its put onto the body.

its is no where near 100% accurate thanks to S27, I obviously did the best I could. I hope everyone enjoys the look of the car so far.

The Steering wheel was modified with more buttons.

Looking good so far, great detail on the cockpit, did you use Top studios electrical connectors? That main body panel looks like its going to take awhile, i feel your pain. My FXX monoque is a pain to CF. Cant wait to see what it looks like!!

yes the connectors are from Top Studio. but so far the CF has been working great, although SMS sort of changed the color on their newer decals of 1024, its not as metallic as the last and it shows, but still looks good

I think the Peugeot 908 is a cool looking car and you are doing a nice job on it!

Yes ive noticed that too!!! i was doing a piece on my FXX then went to get a offcut from my composites pile, & the old Cf was alot more silver, i checked the numbers at the bottom & they were the same but completelty different. I do prefer the new darker CF it looks alot more realistic upclose.

thanks Mark and Steve for the compliments, after 2 days of work so far, all that is left is the rear bonnet, the cockpit, and the kevlar rear tire wells. and so far everything this is looking great, very little cracks so far and everything smooth, it might be too good to be true

cheers,
Steve
