Steering popping sound?

I know this question has been beat to death, but my 2001 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 6.0 crewcab has a loud popping sound when I make left or right turns. Most commonly when I'm backing out of my driveway or pulling into or out of a parking lot/space. Now it only pops once it doesnt keep popping and it doesnt do it everytime. I read a couple of things it might be like trans cross member(which I loosened and retightened and didnt help). Front cross member,or intermediate shaft. From what I read about about the Shaft is that it keeps making noise in the turn(this doesnt). Also would a worn shock make this sound? I have 77,000 on the truck. Also I just replaced the tierod ends. But the noise is still there.
Thanks

PRob the I-shaft, to me it sounded like bad ball joints. I would replace it anyway b/c they are only $100 and it will need replaced eventually.

this noise decription to me also sounds like a ball joint. check the ball joints lift front wheels off ground, use a pry bar and see if they move at the joint. how often do you grease your front end componets ?

shocks bad would normally not make sounds, but damage your tires.

highly recommend checking your upper control arm bushings. my truck is same year just has the regular cab and the rear control arm bushing on the driver side is bad and does the exact same thing yours does ordering the parts this week to fix it. hopefully fixing it on black friday mainly cause i got the day off. hope this helps
