I'm looking to get a better ride from my 99 e/c Z 71 1/2 ton truck and looking for opinions on what shocks people have found to give a better ride than the factory Z 71 shocks.I have already replaced the shocks once with another set of Z 71 shocks bought off Ebay but wonder if I should have chosen a different brand.A mechanic friend of mine suggested KYB's as he has been using them on customers trucks with great results and there's also Munroe Reflex as an option.I mention those 2 in particular because they are both available locally but I could mail order Bilsteins although they are more $ than either of the other 2.There's also Rancho and Edelbrock but I don't have any experience with either of them.
This is a daily driver truck and not lifted I just want a better ride from it and am open to any and all opinions.

my 2000 1500 silveado LT I used bilsteens front /rear from shock warehouse lietime warr..not too expensive..the ride was firmer than original but no bounce..I recommend them . very smooth ride with very good control..been on there now 3 years still very good ride..

original OEM shocks from day one had too much downward movement which then caused the ABS to act up when the rear wheels lifted up off pavement on a frost heaved road..not too good..

if you use the E tires on your vehicle the ride will be harsh,,I stayed with the C tires same as when purchased from factory..original tires lasted 90,000mi ..second set still look new 125,ooomi..

I forgot to add that the tires I have on now are LT C rated in place of the P ones that came on it originally.I would really like to try a set of Bilsteins to see what the difference is but my mechanic friend is still at me to use KYB's so I don't know what direction I'll go.Thanks for the info.

I second what j cat says. I love the Bilsteins that I installed. It rides like a totally different truck, of course my old ones were basically shot. They are the heavy duty ones and are rated for light offroad. There might be other options for the Z71, but definitely check out http://www.shockwarehouse.com as they had the best prices on Bilsteins.
