2001 Silverado 1500 Tranny Problems

I have a 2001 Silverado 1500 with i want to say a 6 inch lift im not sure i bought it like this. Every once in a while when i put my truck in reverse it goes into neutral or so it seems. The Electronic gauge says thing says its in reverse but the truck doesnt move after removing your foot from the brake and giving it gas just revs it like your in neutral. So I put the truck back into park then into reverse again and it will work. Also my tranny when you drive about under 30 sounds like a chains rattling. When it shifts sometimes its a tad bit jerky. I want to know if this problem is fixable or if a new tranny is needed. And i dontk now if this is a problem or not but when im at a red light and i release the brake and my truck moves and this squeaking noise from the back comes it sounds like an owl hooting kinda haha. Thanks for your time.

the reverse could be the switch mounted on the side of transmission that may be worn out, at the linkage ..driverside..

with noises like yours , see a transmission shop familiar with your vehicle...hard to get answers with things making nosies on the internet..

unless you make video for play back..

i agree with j cat i would see a good trans shop familiar with GM transmissions. As for the squeak noise coming from the back, do the squeaks go faster as your accelerate and then go away once you get up to speed. If so i would have to say that would be your u joints squeaking, especially if it has a lift its gonna go through them a little quicker.

okay ill look into that. thanks

and for the noise yeah it goes away once i start to move ive heard that alot of lifted trucks do that but i was just wondering if thats something i should worry about.

if your cv/Ujoints are at an angle to the drive shafts [not straight] you will have these wear at a faster rate , the greater the angle..

what will happen if these are making noises is it will begin to make vibrations then the joint will separate if real bad..could smash up vehicle if the drive shaft buries into the road surface.

well first i would say definitely get the tranny fixed cause when they pull the tranny out they have to pull the driveshaft and will prolly ask you if you want the u joints replaced by them, but if you plan on keeping the truck then i would say you might look into some stronger joints to help deal with the angles on the driveshaft.
