So far they're 4 models to do also!

Ok let me to introduce the "starter kit" ;)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1010.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0001.jpg

and few parts would be cannibalized (ok I admit, I'm cheap, read cloned..) from the following great kits:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0010.jpg

Not to mention..... the starting point:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1001.jpg

like you'll see this Esci 934 is spoiler and fender less....

Ok: two words about my choise of to use the Fuji EM kits insthead the Esci 934: EM 911's offers multiple options combining modulars parts like spoilers and bumpers, and much details so....

So far, a plan:

911 Esso: Base is a 911 turbo (kerbside one)

- Almeras front spoiler, modified from the 934 one
- 934 fenders
- duck tail spoiler

911 Gitanes: base is the 911 Turbo EM

- 911 '74 RS front/back bumpers
- Almeras front spoiler, modified from the 934 one
- correction on turbo "strange" fenders
- 911turbo back wing

911 Martini: base 911 Carrera (narrow)

- scratch bull bars/grilles

911 Rothmans Group B: base is a 911 Turbo '85

- Modified back wing
- '74 RS back bumper
- Turbo front bumper

gionc

911 Esso:

I started with the front spoiler: the kind Almeras spoiler was created modifing (width and high) the 934 one, inlets was modified..

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1002.jpg

A first mock-up:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1005.jpg

Kind plan also for Gotti rims!

And now, speaking of 934.... something for my friend Andy: I think you all will guess next our epic shared thread...

I done something special on the Esso car for glass gaskets: thinking of use PE gaskets on 911S/RS/RSR and 911R I re-engineered the kit to house spare gaskets with a surround (like resin kits), obviously in this one I wouldn't use PE gaskets, too flat, I'm scratchbuilding mine by plastic:

the surround:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0995.jpg

the gasket (back) by 1mm diam rod (sanded then to obtain a semi-circular section)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0997.jpg

and the same job in front

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0996.jpg

Same threatment on sides, where I was able to reuse kit's gaskets (but there I'll sure use PE gaskets, they're flat also on real thing)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0999.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1000.jpg

Fuel cap was drilled out (hard to rescribe) and filled with 2Kputty and plastic

I also sculpt the inner surfaces, but I'll probably use it on a future street 911 (911S?)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1006.jpg

So I started to work on the Gitanes Carrera:

body is the wide kind (turbo) and fenders are just painted on the original car (bolt on only a recent replica), but Fuji turbo looks a bit strange since the shapes are extruded starting from the narrow body, so I tried to modify in the typical rounded profile

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_1008.jpg

Than I worked on the body: this would be a full open model (and a test for future's 934s... :D), all inner surfaces was recreated with 0.5mm thick styrene

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0002.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0003.jpg

Door's panel still needs all its details

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0004.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0005.jpg

And finally a test with RSR (cut) bumpers, Almeras splitter and turbo wing:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0006.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0007.jpg

And speaking of the SC/RS I worked on the '85turbo spoiler cutting and sanding until I got a convincing "carrera" wing, the kind with wide grill

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0008.jpg

I will definately follow this scratchbuilding and kitbashing madness since I have some of the decal sets myself. I have been planning the Esso-Build as well as the Almeras build since awhile now. Luckily I can copy a lot from your ideas - except you claim some sort of copyright on them.

Man, I´m excited. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks, in this case I think would be better be free to fold the rod in any direction, and sand back then, you kno, when you forl a semi circular (or squared) pipe would be trick mantain a planar surface in the back ;)

Hi my friend: must be cool but must be someone other to do it for sale :D, I found cool suck money with my job and spend all on modeling, found also that is quite tedious have income trough models but more it is not enough.... much work/small incom in the modeling world... I ever loved minimum afford/maximum $$$ :D , selling ideas is sometime possible, selling resin or PE not....

Hi Gio,

Waow incredible Porsche multi-projects !!
I love it !

I also recently decided to convert one of my 911 Turbo into the wonderfull SC RS (what a sound !! :naughty:) Group B.
It seems that you miss (or still haven't done it) that the rear wing doesn't only need to be corrected in its wight and edges shape but also has to get his "inside space" reduced. I mean that the rear edge of it is design to receive the intercooler whereas the SC RS is an atmo engine and rear wing isn't enlarge to the rear to get the intercooler.
As inside space isn't as large as the turbo one wing then appears (and is) longer from the edge of the inside space. Did you notice that ? If yes how do you intend to rebuild it ?
because that is where I'm stopped now with this project (except that I can't find time now to go on on it but it's another story :eek7:)
I have some pictures of the real car to show what I mean if it is not clear enough...
(unfortunately none of my current project, but may be able to take some this week-end)
We also have to pay attention not to look too much to the street SC RS for inspiration because it also have some minor differences with the racing one.
(bumper lips, etc...)

Do you plan to build and detail the engines ?
(appears to be a sod question knowing your talent to, but humm... :p :icon16:)

TBH I didn't noticed that :D
If you have pictures that will show the trouble we'll see how to do. Is the Reinassaince wing ok? I have several friends that own the TK and I may check how Etienne fixed it.

About engines and full detail issues: I decided to go for a full detail on the Gitanes, the Esso is curbside, Martini would probably be curbside also since the livery is too cool and fluent to open panels, dunno know yet for the SC RS.... since I need several flat 6 for other projects may be curbside too those also :D

About bumpers, Phil, looks me that it mount the turbo bumper in front, and a RSR one in back: but isn't easy to see well since the dark blue...

I think I understood, Phil:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/911-SC-RS.jpg

Looks not a huge issue for me, I think I'll live with a model that has a grill (once glued and filled) 1 mm wider...

BTW a solution may be to use the 964 3.8 turbo body: those vents looks more accurate and it isn't needed to fill the gap between the wing and the grill. Sure would be quite tedious to sand down the turbo trim under the doors.....

Mmm not exactly what I wanted to point out... But that also may be right... In this case I missed that myself. :icon16:

let's try with your pic to show you what I mean.

SC RS "under" rear wing shape:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e14/phil67c/911-SC-RS1.jpg

whereas turbo rear wing has a wider base to increase inside space aiming to receive the intercooler:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e14/phil67c/911-SC-RS2.jpg

Hope you see what I mean, I'll try to find back my pictures on my hard drive when I'll be back home from work on saturday or sunday.

Thanks Phil, I think I understood: following are all replicas but 2 looks correct and the last one looks mount the standard turbo wing:

Looks good:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/911scrs.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/scRS3.jpg

Looks wrong:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/scRS14.jpg

Ok, one solution may be to try to combine the wing with a coupè bonnet, the other may be to cut the "round" and rebuild the surface with stirene and putty...

Hello! It is simply fantastic project. I when collected 911 Paris-Dakar , took a back wing from Tamiya 911 Flatnose (34070). The big work on cutting out is necessary only.

Romik your job there is fantastic, sure it would be helpful: awesome.
I didn't understand at 100% the back window issue, may be the russian-ita translator: would be the back window gasket less, and the glass would be mounted like on some racing cars, without surround?

I liked to leave a post but its is so old that I would be banned for bump at first post there :D, I recognized some AF fellows also :D

Gionc:Thanks. It is pleasant to hear from such master as You.
Back glass should be pulled out quickly there. The rubber sealant should be from below.I have made a little not correctly. It was necessary to cut off a rubber sealant from a body. And glass to make it is more on the size.

right, you understood what I wanted to point out.

Romik505's Dakar Porsche is trully incredible, what a result. :naughty: :sunglasse
pictures of the model already are on my hard drive for references ! :icon16:

The dakar version rear window has nothing to deal with the road or rally version, because it isn't really a window anymore as it can be put on and off as a rally hood with fasteners on each corner.

A couple steps more on the Esso SC. When everithing looked me right in primer (that obviously meant dozens passes of filler , sandpaper and primer, like ever..) I started to think at the fender'd edges and rivets.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0017.jpg

And with edges installed (0.6 mm diam. stirene rod, filled and carefully sanded)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0018.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0019.jpg

Than I finished a bit the edges, primered, and played with drill:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0024.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0025.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0244.jpg

I sanded it between coat with 6000 grit mesh, wet. Same after last coat.

Mask job: notice my usual "sandwitch" of 3M tape+ Tamy tape

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0251.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0252.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0253.jpg

TS Tamy color are great but transparent: it would switch the blue to a kind maroon (muuuuch yellow in the red) so I carefully sprayed one good hand of Zero white: unfortunately you wouldn't sand down it before spray the blue.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0256.jpg

The blue is a kind mix of TS44 (60% approx) and TS15 (40%), it would seem rich and achieve those kind Magenta reflex. TS44 by its own looks much Turkey and flat (a bit yellowish reflex)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0258.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0260.jpg

There is still a small "step" bettween colors:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0265.jpg

Also cool to see aside the sanded red and the new blue.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0267.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/911scpoker/DSC_0266.jpg

Unfortunately the macro show a line beetween the two colors that you can't see zooming in or by naked eyes: it is just light that run on those small "step" I mentioned (like happen on body panels like doors)

Thanks guys, I appreciated. Daniel: 3D rapid proto are done by a service, I just designed 3D datas.

Ok guys I'm ready for decals: I sanded down the "step" between colors until grit 6K, got some white in the blue areas, re-masked and sprayed blue, day after I re masked for last time and exposed few red areas where the color went out lighter. This is the result before the decals application: I'm wondering how cut out most of the carrier film since I would like avoid the transparent in this model, just like on late '70 racing cars.

This is just a quick rough polishing job with grit 6000 and fine Tamy's compound, a fine job would follow the decal job, with all the goodies we are used to smell :D

nice job. you can still clearcoat and protect decals, sand it and polish but not in mirror standard. I think it can work. or you want to achieve that logos will raise abit?

That is a great paint and polishing job. I follow with interest since I have the decalset as well. I really like to see this one finished! Keep up the great work.

Remarkable blue and red colour! After pictures there will be a transparent varnish coat? I have correctly understood?
If it so, shine of a body very big.I some times got to a bad story after painting of black elements of furnish of a body. The layer of a transparent varnish separated together with a camouflage tape.It was with paints TS.
Now I always clean shine completely a soft abrasive 2000 before drawing of pictures.

Thanks guys! One update: body decalled (didn't found amazing this old S27 set) and coated with twelwe thin hands of TS13. It is the first time I use so much hands (TBH my target was 20-21 hands but I didn't rexisted and I started to polish :D). I sanded down the decal's step (carrier film) after the 8th coat with 3200/3600/4000 and 6000 mesh, all next coats was sanded just with 6000 mesh and last one with 12K also, than I lightly polished with Tamy's compound and flavoured Tamy wax.

Done something inside. Mr. Roll Cage seems alive and in good healt!

For the first time I built it by styrene rod , folding it with warm.

Also the chassis required some job and much putty since it is designed to be built with seats, and since the fitting isn't so good as supposed also....
