The price is scary very much so!!! I'm looking for a direct fit for a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue something that's not 400-900 bucks, I don't care what brand just need it to pass emissions this and a door are my final projects and this car is ready to GO! It's also gotta be OBD2 Compliant and California State Emissions Compatible!!! PLEASE direct me to a miraculously cheap one!!

Well...I went to Magnaflow's website and searched for California compatible converters for a 2002 Intrigue.

It came up with:

Part #46006 Universal Fit
Part #46213 Direct Fit

I wont even list the prices directly from Magnaflow because theyre so ridiculous.

I went to Ebay for a quick reference and typed in "Magnaflow 46006" and found several starting at just over 200 dollars...which is a lot better than your original figure...the direct fit one is close to 600 off Ebay...the only difference between the two converters is most likely just the fact that one bolts up to your exhaust manifold, and the other doesnt....

Also for what its worth the 49 state converter they list is exponentially cheaper at about 81 dollars off Ebay....

I had no idea Wisconsin had such strict emissions standards....but you live there, I dont. Unless you absolutely need the California rating, get something cheaper.

Also, did you ever replace the oxygen sensor that was throwing the code? I know you mentioned you replaced the one in the exhaust manifold, but the code was for the one behind the converter.

I did replace both o2 Sensors the one on the catalytic converter and the one on the manifold it was allot easier than I had expected thank you very much for the help. Now I think I discovered a way around the high price of the catalytic converter. I'm just going to get a 49 state Universal and pay 100 bucks to have it welded into place. Now it should be legal and okay for me to have on my car as long as I don't go to California. I hope it works it sounds like it should but the 02 intrigue has the standard California emission system my only concern is would a universal be compatible with that system? But as long as the engine light stays off and I can pass emissions for Wisconsin I don't care about not being able to go to California. I just don't know how California recognizes a Non compliant catalytic Converter my guess would be they could figure it out by doing the fume test.

Unless you ever plan on living in California, you shouldnt need California equipment. Its not like they stop you and give you an emissions test when you cross the state line haha.

Truth be told it will still be legal even if you go to California, your vehicle should be under Wisconsin law, as thats where its registered and such.

But definitely just get the cheaper one if thats all you need, it should do just fine with your system. I get the error code every great once in a while, but I also have a really cheap converter, I dont think Id have that problem if I had gotten a higher quality one.

Good luck!

I just got the catalytic converter replaced it definitely makes a difference and I now know that there had to have been a huge plug in the thing because I didn't hear anything going through it and I never thought about that. The 99 Intrigue we have has a nice vroom to it and my 2002 didn't when I got it it was sooo quiet. I attributed it to being newer and the 99 being older and probably needing a whole new exaughst well I was wrong on everything. I ordered a Magnaflow # 46006 Universal Fit california legal (Thanks to LittleHoov for refering it to me), I had it welded in and now it vrooms too. And the 99's whole exaugsht was just replaced 2 years ago.lol. AND I FINALLY PASSED EMISSIONS...W:naughty::naughty:T...
