sea foam

alright here the deal got a ticking in the engine. sounds like a lifter or something. what was suggested to me was to run seafoam through the oil and fuel system and according to this guy the tick would be gone as long as it wasnt a bent up lifter or valve or something. anyone ever had this problem or used seafoam? good or bad? also what did you do as far as adding it to oil? drain a quart and add a can?? how long did you run it for before changing the oil? any negative experiences? im very pick about what i use in or on my truck so just want to do a little checking around. but at this point willing to try anything. i like a quiet motor and this ticking makes me want to pull my hair out and im loosing my hair quick enough as it is. its a 02 1500 with the 5.3 by the way.

first, do you use fram oil filters ? use regular dino oil ? change oil every 5,ooomi. ? if these apply , as how you maintain the oil in your engine, this is most likey carbon in the lifters causing then not to hold oil and prevent noises...running like this for a period of time will damage the engine...get the preferred oil filters mobil 1,wix, or what I use the purolator PLUS....even the ac delco is not good anymore GM sold out..

place into the engine oil after replacing the oil and installing the listed oil filters 4-5 oz of marvel mystery oil..this product has been around for a very long time,,,I have used this product in all my engines with no damage and it works...your oil may soon turn black after this is installed ..this means you must change the oil again as the carbon is desolving and the filters are in need of replacing...carbon in the oil will rapidly wear out the componets..

synthetic oil is best used if you plan on operating this vehicle well beyond 100,ooomi...especially if used as a work vehicle...

I never used seafoam...however forum members say they like it..

I use a fram tough guard filter, valvoline 10w-30, and change my oil every 3000 miles or sooner. i have wanted to switch to a full synthetic (104,000m) but having never used it before im not sure if theres anything i need to do before switching and i have always just tended to stick to what i know works.

4-5 oz of marvel mystery oil..this product has been around for a very long time,,,I have used this product in all my engines with no damage and it works...

Do you use the marvel mo at every oil change in your cars?

not unless the lifters make alittle noise or the engine starts the cold knocking...on first driving when the cold weather arrives..

what is very surprising is as the mileage increases these issues are fading..125,ooo plus now..

the engine works better now than when new 2000...

I use marvel in all the small engines I own ..put it in the gas...I have a 20yr old lawn mower engine still runs good..
marvel does remove the carbon and carbon wears out engines..

my advice / opinion is stay away from fram oil filters...just like this guy 100,oomi and issues arise...fram =poor filtration...

i dont this the filter was the problem. the guy that owned it before me used purolator filters till 98,000 miles. i put the first fram filter on it after the ticking started. i have always liked the frams used em on all my vehicles. used it on my t-bird and s-10 and put over 100k on both with no internal engine issues other than head gaskets. just imo.

well I have read about the fram problems..so a long time ago I started cuting open the filters,,now you will never see/read me advse anyone to buy those filters..seeing is believing..this is why I use purolator PLUS...or WIX...excellant filter media very dense....many pleats,,very stong..and a solid check valve...but don't believe me start cuting them open..

also mobil1 and the other synthetics are far superior to dino oil...this is a working engine, it needs superior oil if you what it to go over 200,ooo without a engine worn..

where I live, you simply exchange it for the marvel mystery oil..

I'm with you there, there's nothing wrong with FRAM oil filters. I've been using them since I bought my truck at 104k, now I'm at 193k and change the oil every time it tells me to, I use Valvoline High Mileage Oil. I'm one of those guys that actually uses his truck to work, hauling a ton of rocks, dirt or building materials or pull a 5 ton trailer. Just my opinion!

I have used sea foam on my truck once.. It seems to have cleaned everything out real nice. The last time I used it was when my truck had about 150K miles on it. Now it has about 190K Miles. I added it when I filled my truck up with gas. You will notice an increase in power and better throttle response. I always added in with oil when I changed it.
I also ran it through the vacum line. that is where the fun begins. As you empty the can into the vacum line, you need to make sure you are giving it throttle. You do not want the engine to die on you while you are adding the sea foam. If you have a 2002 or older it is easier as you can just pull on the throttle cable as you are pouring.. If you have a Electronic throttle, you may need someone to assist.
If you see a alot of smoke comming out of the exhaust then you know you have a lot of build up. Just keep pouring until 1) you run out 2) the smoke clears away.
