Help with torque specs please.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to track down torque specs for wheel bearings on my 02 GX. It has come to my understanding that the outer nut (axle) requires torque...but I am unsure about the 3 inside bolts. I'd like specs for front and rear, if available, in ft-lbs please. This lack of torquing by my mechanic (if actually required) may be contributing to my constant bearing failure rate. I've had 5 warranty bearings put in within the last 6 months. (2 left side, 3 right side)

On a lighter note...I've noticed that alot of people are having "mystery" problems with their car...some common....some really rare. Everyone needs help with something different and usually have to use a trial and error method to find a solution, or have multiple possible solutions......in the end...I guess this is why they named the car "Intrigue" and then the division of GM disappeared. lol. Just saying!

My Chiltons manual says 96 ft. lbs for the hub to knuckle bolts (the 3 on the backside) and 150 ft lbs on the axle nut.

What brand have you been replacing them with?

Yeah, there are some weird gremlins with the Intrigue, you may be right about them being so Intriguing haha....but these days I'm just happy to have a car that starts everytime I turn the key...erm well that is after I disabled the Security system so that it would let me use my key to start it.

I think Oldsmobile had some great cars during its final days, but they never marketed them, and were trying to pitch them too the wrong crowd IMO...The Aurora especially is even classier than the Intrigue, and every bit as reliable, but I dont recall ever once seeing an Aurora commercial...it was all Cadillac, and Chevrolet, and Pontiac...but oh well.

I've been buying 6 month warranty bearings from NAPA. I don't have any idea who they are wholesaling from so I have no idea of the brand. I just hope that putting the proper torque to them will help them last a while...at least throughout the warranty.

This car is my first Olds...I got it for a killer price...thought I bought a pit...but I've been happy so far. People tell me to drive it like it's stolen, but I can't help putting money into it...working on the gremlins. It's a good car overall and I like it to run well.

Since we're talking torque...can you tell me what I should torque the lug nuts at on the factory alloy wheels?

I've had to replace a bad bearing or 3 on mine as well. With the exception of the first one though, its always been because the Wheel-speed sensor failed.

Ive had good luck with Timken bearings myself, theyre a bit more expensive, but most will tell you theyre worth it. RockAuto sells them with a one-year warranty, your local shop might warrant them longer though...

Book says 100 ft lbs on the wheel lugnuts.

If you take care of it, it should last a good long time. The 3.5 is pretty well bulletproof, id venture to say its even more reliable than the 3800 Series II. The weak point in these cars is the transmission, but you actually have a good year for it, I believe some of the common problems were fixed in 01-02ish..

I too plan on driving mine till the wheels fall off, as youve seen in getting yours for a killer price, they really arent worth much, so selling it wont get you a better car without spending more money. Good luck!
