Hello everyone! This is what I’m currently working on: a pair of Lancer Evolution WRCs. Instead of building them OOB, I’ll swap parts between the two kits to build replicas of two machines below.
Evo 5, Winner of Rally Australia 1998, and
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x216/ng_nmda/Lancer%20Evo%20WRC%20duo/mak_aus98.jpg
Evo 6, Winner of Monte 1999.
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x216/ng_nmda/Lancer%20Evo%20WRC%20duo/mak_monte99.jpg
I’ll be using aftermarket decals and SMS’s photo-etch set.
First off, progress pics of the Evo 6:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x216/ng_nmda/Lancer%20Evo%20WRC%20duo/Marlboro/10.jpg
After painting the rest of the body with Tamiya’s bright red.

Monte 1999 decal from Studio27. Since it’s one of the earlier decal sheets produced by them, some minor details are missing, namely the blue Gr A decals on the front doors, and the “2” decal on the roof

So I also used the decal set from a company called AMS.

Looks great! Seeing this really makes me want to build the evo kits I have stashed away.

Nice work so far! The EVO 6 WRC machine for me equals rally. Remember watching Tommi driving it live. Amazing noise at full revs, and the stance of the car have left lasting memories. Will be watching your build closely! keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comments!
WRCfan: Just like you, Evo 6 is also one of the machines that defines WRC for me (the others are Evo5, Celica ST185 and Impreza), as I started watching it on TV in late 1990s and fell in love with it instantly. Tommi Makinen is one of my favourite drivers of all time, as he is the only one who can drive Lancer Evos to victories in WRC events, from what I could remember. I would love seeing one of these cars in action live; it must be incredible.
I’ll post pics of the Evo 5 next time.
Cheers,
Nam

Updates on the Evo 5:
Masked off the white areas, and painted the rest TS-49 Bright Red again

The decal sheet by Museum Collection. Not too obvious on the pics below, mine was slightly defective as some of the “Winfield” letterings had really rough edges

Indeed great work you're showing.
I too have several Evo's stashed away, so I'll be watching your progress closely.
What's the goo that's smeared all over the masking tape?
I suppose some kind of maskol or other masking liquid. But does that mean that masking tape alone won't cover/protect your model enough?

Yes indeed the green goo over the tape is masking fluid. Sometimes masking tapes do not stick too well, creating gaps between tapes which allow paint to seep through during spray painting. This had happened to me in the past, ruining my masking job. So nowadays I always put masking fluid on top of masked surfaces to prevent disasters from happening.:p

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since the last update as I didn’t make much progress until earlier this month.
ben_gsr2s: based on the Evo 6 reference pics I got, they used the 10-spoke Enkeis for some tarmac stages while for the rest they stuck with the old 5-spoke Enkeis they've been using since Evo 1 was debuted in 1993!
On to the pics:
Added aluminum foil the transmission tunnels

Nice progress you have there mate!!! Also thanks for the email.
Love the work done on these models, they will look neat all buttoned up and finished. Well done will keep an eye out for any further progress!
Really want to keep mine going as well, just too cold here to spraypaint anything. Will see how the sun comes out tomorrow though. haha.

Thanks for everyone’s comments! The models are about 90% complete. Here's another update:
Polished the bodies. Did all the panel lines and added PE mesh. The Mitsubishi logos at the front are adhesive items from MSM creations. The pics are a bit dark here; the red is much brighter in person.

rollin80s: I was also a bit reluctant to cover up the suspension details as afterall I did spend quite a lot of time on them. However the models look more accurate with skid plates on :icon16:
