I have a 2000 silverado that ran out of gas or so I was told. so i put 3 gallons of gas in try to start it and nothing. the gas hand doesn't move or anything. a friend said that you should hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key. I cant hear it so i check the fuse only i don't know which one it is. basicly what i need to know is wheres the fuel pump and which of the fuses control it. I can't seem to get the owners manuel because all the links i find are broke. any help would be great thanks

fuel problems with these vehicles are common...especially if you operate with a low fuel supply....in a short time the fuel pump burns out...

what are the details with the fuel supply ...how much did you have in the tank ? when this crapped out...I would put another 3gallons into the tank...then with one person turning the key to ignition on not start/crank hit the fuel tank bottom with a shoe/piece of 2x4 etc...repeat this a few times the pump may start...if it does then just get a new delphi fuel pump...and make sure its not a clone china crap copy...then with a fuel guage check for correct fuel pressures of 53-62 psi range...

since it is old vehicle replace the fuel pump relay and filter,,,check the fuel regulator for fuel in the vacuum line ..if it is with fuel replace the regulator as well..

remember with the ignition to on and the engine is off the pump is commanded on for only 2 sec...

Well see my aunt said she ran out of gas and said that she put around a gallon and a half in there with no luck on trying to start it. I then went over there and put another 3 gallons in with no luck starting it. I noticed that even the gas gauge in the car was not even registering that I had any gas in there at all. so then I thought to check the fuse to see if was blown. but its not labeled and I don't have the owners manuel and for some reason the pdf version that GM is supposed to have all the links are broken. what I really need to know is which fuse or relay it is and where the fuel pump is, but from your answer i gather that the fuel pump is in the gas tank. if any one has a pdf copy of the owners manuel that would be great.

this vehicle requires 7gallons of fuel before the fuel guage will show anything...you need 5-6 gallons of fuel ..

with the vehicle this old and she does run on E often this fuel pump may indeed be cooked well done very crispy...

the fuse to check is the 20A ecm B ...the fpr is the fuel pump relay...
since she ran out of fuel if the fuse is good and hitting the tank bottom don't help get it going this will need be taken to a repair shop for a 500.oo repair ...maybe more...

some owners think driving around with little fuel in the tank saves money ,,,then the repair bills ....injectors get damaged as well ...

reply with the results ...

what is a 20a ecm b fuse

since you don't understand this ,,,get a friend etc that does , so that this simple check can be made...also you should or your friend should have a volt ohm meter to do this fuse /voltage checking correctly..

if this is impossible have it towed to a repair shop...
