1978 Tbird

My dad's 1978 Tbird has been in the garage since 1999, with 69,000 miles on the odometer. He passed away in Nov, so Mom planned on getting rid of the car. A few weeks ago, she called and reported the fuel tank was leaking.

We had it towed to the shop, they replaced the tank, battery, and fuel filter. That got it running, but not very well. Drove it to my place this weekend. Couldn't get the choke to release. Couldn't get a lot of power out of the engine. Started it again yesterday, it stalled and I couldn't restart. When it was running, it seemed like it might have been hitting on 7 of 8 cylinders.

I'm assuming I just flooded it, and it's been so long since I've driven an old carbureted car, I'll have to relearn the details of taking care of them.

It's going to the shop this week for a tune-up...maybe they'll find something wrong with the choke.

My son will be driving this car for transportation...I'm sure we'll be on the forum for help as time goes on.

78 bird is a smog monster with an underpowered engine, unfortunally...

you wont get much out of it
