I have a 99 intrigue with a 3.5L engine with 139k miles. Around September I Started smelling a very faint coolant smell outside of the car. It's not noticeably burning it or getting in the oil. I also had it flushed about a year ago when the water pump blew and it got coolant every where and you could smell it very strongly until I cleaned up the engine compartment a bit. It did not smell like coolant after that however recently it is smelling like coolant. I tested with a coolant tester and all was okay I can only smell it when the engine is warm. The second problem is its an oil consumer it has been for 7 years and 109,000 Miles(we got our moneys worth). When I start the car and turn the heat or air on I notice it smells like grease or oil for a few minutes. I do not know where it could be coming from although I'm positive it does have something to do with the oil being burned, also noticed the windows need to be cleaned allot my guess is it's oil residue from the oil being burned, only question is how can it be getting in the vehicle. Any Idears???

windows being cleaned leads me to believe your heater-core is leaking...as well as the fact the smell shows up after your heat is turned on. Passengers floor damp or wet? Oil being burnt is common in the 3.5l engines and honestly not much to worry about, just make sure it doesn't get too low on oil. Any oil being burned will come out the exhaust not inside the car.

yea its burned oil for 7 years since it was a baby. I know it's not a big deal. I haven't noticed the floor being wet I will check into it though but I have noticed that weird smell inside too smells oily more of a grease smell to it. My other Intrigue is an 02 doesn't burn yet and its got 84k on it hope it doesn't start burning but then again its got the 3.5 so I think it's just a matter of time
