Hey everybody,
Since i've builded my first bigscale a few weeks ago (Tamiya Mini), the microbe never let me go...
So its time for this:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/11363/P1010804.JPG

Its the Fujimi Calsonic Skyline Gr.A'90 1/12.
Cool thing is that besides the hood, the doors can open also.

Because of a recent purchase:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/11363/P1010812.JPG

I'm planning on doing this: http://www.spc.org.uk/nissan/1-12_skyline/mods/index.htm
Steve's build of another version made me wanna build my own.
I will try to make the brakes, springs, pulleys etc with my new lathe.
I'm a cad engineer in real life so making drawings of pieces wont be a problem. In school i've used a lathe before so i have big hopes for this one

Time for pics:

Good luck! I am always impressed how large those 1/12 cars look next to their 1/24 little brothers. I need to do something in 1/12 scale one of these days. Can’t want to see how you utilize the lathe. I have one on my holiday wish list but am pretty sure it won't pan out.

Sweet. are those aftermarket wheels? I think you should machine some new wheels, i would defently buy a set. I thought hiroboy was going to machine wheels for sale for these skylines?

Good luck with this build. Keep us posted, any chance on making extra sets of parts and selling them. I think there would be an interest in them.

Also i hope fujimi releases the gtr in 1/12. They have the prototype already done.

I too like the idea of making extra parts for sale....if you were up to it of course. There are sweet FA parts available for larger kits. :disappoin
I thought Steve was going to do some part making as well, but I guess he's pretty busy these days..

Thanks stump,

I havn't tought of the extra parts yet... The alternator was just a test and so will be the rest of the parts... If i am confident enough maybe i will sell them to the public. But because its not a cnc lathe, and i make parts with my mind instead of putting them on paper or autocad first, it will be very time consuming for serial work... Will see

Subscribed! Seeing the body reach almost entirely across the diagonal of the A3 pad just says it all for me...huge! Looks like incredible fun though and I can't wait to see what else you lathe/scratchbuild for this. Best of luck. I'm wondering how it'll look finished, next to your Mini :p

- added a piece of electrical wire
- sprayed alclad

Can you conrirm that this car is a 'crew-together' car? I have one myself (but the road car) and mine has screws and a small screwdriver to be put together. I accept that you will be building it 'properly' but wanted to know how you were handling the screws and screw-heads once put together? Are you going to putty over them to hide them?

I'm very interested in seeing how you put this whole vehicle together and to what level of detail you build into it. In fact, I can't wait. Please keep us all updated with lots of pics.

Cheers!

Hey Ajrichar!

This car is indeed a screw-together car. The screws that are visible once finished will be hidden, dont know how yet. But like on the engine, the pulleys are screwed to the engine block. Once the engine block is in place you wont be able to see them so i dont try to hide them. (Fear of messing things up )
I will keep posting updates, no worries.
Currently the final primer is on and maybe i will paint it calsonic blue tomorrow.

Stunning build so far!!! Amazing detail & great finish on the body.
I noticed that there is blue paint behind the front lights lens. From memory it should be silver, although i beleave the N1 spec GTRs had "special" lights that where plated in a darker chrome on the inside, ive heard them refered to as "bug eye", but i dont know how accurate that is. Heres a pic, check it out

Hi, SuperMele:

First of all, let me say that your work with body colour is really good.

I have seen in pictures some mistakes very easy to solve. First is that no Gr.A versions run with rear wiper, and second is that fuel caps must be mounted inside the rear hood, and third is rear hood open key lock must be eliminated.

I attach a pair of reference pictures I'm using to make same version but at 1/24 scale.

Hope will be useful for you.

Hey Borjacho,

Problem with the wiper is that fujimi made a hole in the rear window.
So i searched for a spare wiper to cover the hole. Or is there a way to fill in the hole with something clear?

I used some pics i could find on the net but didn't have much reference pics, so i'm building the fuel caps like i think they have to be (looking at fujimi's plastic piece that normally would fit in). Now that i have a good pic of the fuelfillers i will try to adjust :)

Keyhole will be a bit tricky, sanding it smooth, spraying primer, blue and clear again, will see what i can do about it.

And thanks for the pics!

And rear wiper is removed and hole in window filled with a scrap piece.

Onwards to the chassis!
