Ferrari 575 GTC, Tecnomodel 1/24

I have posted few completed models before, but this is my first WIP here: Tecnomodelīs Ferrari 575 GTC Estoril version.

Most of you probably remember two outstanding builds of this car by Mr. Prini and Mr. Sjelic few years back. If I can reach half of that level Iīll be very happy . I used both builds as reference for my build, I hope you guys donīt mind that. This is Estoril 2003 version of the car, which has little different color scheme and interior.

Body was primed and then painted with Zero Rosso and Yellow paints.

After light clear coat, Zero 1K Clear, decals were applied. No problems there, decals were very easy to work with.

All moulded cables were removed. Interior was painted with Tamiya Aluminium and electronic boxes and various cables were added.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d111/pekkah/DSC_4638.jpg

Centre console was covered with carbon decal and switches and decals were added.

Wheels and breke disks were prepared also.

This is where I'm now. Roll cage needs further work, dashboard and seat still wait for primer and paint.

Interior looks sweet. May I ask which switches you used/where you got them from? They look very effective.

Actual switches are from Hobby Design (Toggle Switch A) and I used Scale Motorsportīs washers as a base. I got them from domino.de.

Wow! The Tamiya Aluminium you used for the interior looks very realistic inside the body. How did you go about painting the dashboard? It looks textured and to scale. Steering wheel looks too shiny and plasticky to me though.

Dashboard was first painted with Tamiya Ts-29 (Semi-Gloss Black), shot through airbrush. Then I sprayed Tamiya Grey Primer from approx. 1 m, this created texture.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d111/pekkah/DSC_4799.jpg

Finally I shot Tamiya Flat Black also from 1 m distance. Seat was painted same way.

Sjelic your built of this car has been guide and inspiration for my work. Iīll try to be carefull when I get to windows . Any advice for that?

I have made some progress. The car is on its wheels now.

Still lot of work. Diffuser, rear wing and those windows are biggest things to add. Lots of tiny photoech parts too.

Very nice!

Don't worry about window and gaskets: I was a lot but job was simple and clean, just start with the easy one, like sides or back.

I glued acetate and gasket at same time, unlike done by guys like Prini and Sasa that glued gasket on acet. before: I just kept the sandwich in position by very small tape cuts, and use a thinned white glue, the fast for wood kind.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/DHL575/vetri.jpg

It need several passes to achieve a decent strongness, but work well. I seen this process used by aircraft modelers in small scales, and I use the tip in all my multimedia models.

Sorry for delay, I was away from computer for a while, as for the acetate, like Gio said, it is not such a big problem with windows, just take extra care not to over do with glue ( I even used super glue on corners of front wind shield), but do take care with front lights since acetate need to be curved a lot (specially upper outside part), just be patient and use very little glue ( i used really small amount of two part epoxy for those corners).

I have made little progress with this one. Front and rear lights are installed. Rear lights which come with the kit are poorly made, so I used lights from Studio27 Ferrari F40GTE kit.

Windows are isntalled also, Iīm waiting for glue to cure now :sunglasse.

Gionc and Sjelic, thank you for your tips. You were right, hardest part was front light covers :)
