Kurt Johnson's AC Delco Cavalier Pro Stock

This is a project Clay wanted from me when complete. I dont know why when he builds his own outstanding Pro Stocks. He bought me the body, decals, tires, etc... I supply the labor and I guess get a big kiss when I give it to him..... ;D ;D ;D

This is KJ's Pro Stock Ac delco Cavalier Extreme build. I started with the chassis like I always do on these builds. Alot of cutting, scratchbuilt bars grace this thing to make it a modern pro stock. I used the Summit Racing Firebird pro stock kit as a starting point. The front lower control arms were made from aluminum tubing and PE heim joints. Here are the stage pics from Metallic Grey basecoat to paint. It looks like my WJ car really! Adding the Carbon fiber to the tunnel and wheel wells is a daunting task!

Once the chassis was done and fitted to the body properly, I cut it all apart, finessed it and primed it. Here are a few primer mock ups... The rear wheels have anodized beadlock rings from a slot car supplier. The front wheels are also from the same supplier that Clay picked up for the build. I believe they are called Pro Track slot cars.

And.... Jumping ahead!!! Its in paint! House of Kolor Kobalt Kandy Basecoat is the ultimate blue. I painted the white and blue. Added one coat of clear, Slixx decals, and more clear.... I have not polished yet but need to do a few areas....

The block and trans are from the kit, The valve covers are Competition resin pieces which really beef up the look.... The oil pan, Pulleys, Oil tank and Breather are all Machine works indy.... ;) Distributor is from pro tech.

All oil lines, and fittings are detailmaster. The oil filter and sump pump is scratchbuilt along with my engine plate :) Enjoy!!

Got the rear suspension built and installed today. Its all scratchbuilt from Aluminum and plastic .060 tubing. The heim joints were made by mashing the ends of #3 DM hardline and sliding a Pro tech .035 hexnut up against them . The diff and ladder bars were painted with alclad dark aluminum. Then black was misted to simulate the heat joints. Brakes are DM PE Pieces and the shocks are from R&D unique.

Rear slicks are complete and detailed.. Decided to "shoepolish" these up! ;D Just need to add a black wash to tone down the rims later...

The engine bay is ready for a permanant installation of the engine.... I scratchbuilt a Master cylinder and plumbed it with hardline. The fuel pump used up front on KJ's car is made by magnaflow. I downloaded a few pics off the net and replicated it as close as possible using Aluminum tubing, solid aluminum tubing and a #3 combo fitting. All I have to do now is scratchbuild a fuel cell and plumb it up.

http://images44.fotki.com/v1581/photos/1/335511/7440097/P1010017-vi.jpg
http://images41.fotki.com/v1580/photos/1/335511/7440097/P1010018-vi.jpg

The seat is also complete and installed. Completely carbon fibered, cleared and belts and hardware installed.

http://images41.fotki.com/v1577/photos/1/335511/7440097/P1010019-vi.jpg

And another hurdle covered... The Shift linkage. I made this thing based off of pics of a G-Force Trans that KJ runs in his cars called the GF-2000. A clutchless 5 spd that pro stocks run. All of it is pure scratchbuilding with sheet styrene. It will be complete once I add the Heim joint links once the engine is in place.

MAJOR hurdles this weekendon the engine bay... I will be taking a break for a week to knock out a few other projects, but I really wanted to get the engine detailing for the most part done. It needs electrical wiring and a coolant overflow tank but thats about it. Man it gets real busy looking once everything is in place. Alot of profanity was slinging in my brain and some out loud but I got it done...... Headers were done with various alclads by the way. The Carbs are Barry Grant Demon units from Pro tech.

http://images51.fotki.com/v177/photos/1/335511/7975502/P1010022-vi.jpg

I also got the heim linkages all hooked up to the clutchless 5 speed shifter I scratch built.

http://images46.fotki.com/v400/photos/1/335511/7975502/P1010024-vi.jpg

And I could not resist... I had to get that Massive rear slab wing mounted... it just makes the car look sinister.... :)

That is simply sublime work you are doing there Dave. Could it be that you guys are getting better over the last few years? I think so. I tell you what, I have been in a model slump for most of the year, but this work you and Clay are doing(and others as well) is starting to get the juices flowing and having me itch to build again. Awesome work dude. I love the drag cars and even better detailed drag car models with all the fruit.

Cheers

Major update again! Thanks for all the interest guys... the interior is done! Alot of work went into this part of the car so I could hang the body.... Check it out and let me know what questions you have about anything! Clay helped me out with the quartermax, Koni shock, and Digital 7 decals on all the components.....

Superb stuff Dave as always.:smokin:

How does the body locate onto the chassis - pins, just glue or magic? I can't see any locating lugs etc...
