2000 silverado maximum speed

a forum member asked where to get the information, to operate his vehicle in europe..this is required..I searched my records,and other data..with no exact number or listing of this spec on this 2000 silverado maximum speed ...

the answer is 100mph...but what is needed is a document to show this info..

I gave it a try and GM once again didn't surprise me, when they stated the information is unavailable....

this is just another reason why I don't recommend buying these GM vehicles any more...poor customer support...once they have your money its screw you....your the stupid fool who bought the vehicle from us...

my state is now creating a new law to force dearlerships / GM to give auto repair shops data required to repair vehicles..this was in response to complaints of these shops being denied,or being excessively charged for this information..

The pcm limits the speed based on tire ratings, no big secret here. Been that way for years on all cars. Read the road tests in Car and Driver for example, they make notations about speed limitations based on pcm programming.

the tire certification on the drivers door edge should have this info..on these vehicles it was not done...other vehicles do have this info like you stated..

What would he do if he had an aftermarket tune done to eliminate the speed limiter? Would it help? How about having a European GM dealer flash the PCM with the same programming as the European vehicles or are the emission equipment different in Europe?

It could be driveshaft speed is the issue and not tires. There's a lot written about it, and I included one link below. The Wallace Racing driveshaft calculator is useful. Calculate a steel driveshaft 72 inches long.

You can get tune or buy a programmer. They have an option to eliminate the speed limiter.

Mine shuts off at 98 :frown: lol. Found out racing my buddies f250 v-10 with a programmer, intake, and exhaust(walked away from him till i hit shutoff)
