hi, newb here i have a 94 silverado z71 5.7 tbi . i bought this truck about 3 months ago. didn`t have to much power, tried to power brake the truck, and have to pretty much put it to the floor for it to spin. so i gave it a tune up 3 days ago, plugs, wires, pcv valve, dist cap and rotor, fuel filter, and air filter. and still can not really spin the tire, can somone help me with what else to do. there are no codes, no check engine light on either. coul;d it be maybe the engine is just tired. it runs fines starts fine, just lacks power, thanks guys, and girls arthur

Do a compression test on each cylinder first.A reman 350 is cheaper than getting it rebuilt.A Jasper reman is about $1,200.00 also cheaper than a GM reman and getting this one rebuilt is more.

ok, thanks i will try to get a compresion tester this week, and see what i have for compresion. thanks again arthur

hi, what should i be getting as far as compresion for each cylinder? just looking for a basic number to see how close the cylinder`s are . thanks

dont forget to check your timing on your truck that can be an easy one with 168k your motor shouldnt be 2 tired i had 199k on mine before i blew mine up (my fault) and it had plenty of power

Should be over 100 for a compression check.

hi checked cylinder 1, 3 , 5, and 7 all were over 150, close to 163.

Sounds good. I like to see 140-180 on most engines. If you have close to 160 and consistent in all cylinders that's where you want to be. Now you just need to check the passenger side bank.

hi, i checked cylinders #2 =168 #4 =159 #6 =166 #8= 164 that`s what i got for compression on those cylinder`s. now i need to get the timing checked. if the timing checks out good, what else can i look for? the truck still has no balls to power brake it, i literally have to put the gas pretty much to the floor for it to spin and if it does spin, you can hear it hardly spinning. it just about spins. i tried even going around a corner and gas it hard to spin, and it won`t even spin around a corner. i was on the highway sunday, and i pressed the gas to the floor to pass a car and the the motor sounded like it popped through the tbi ,died down then picked up and went . does that sound like something you might know a solution too? thanks everybody for all your help, i`m stumped on this truck.

hi again, i remembered going to the book store which is about 20 minutes from my house. i went in, bought the book and came right out to the truck, i went to start it and it kinda sounded like it wasn`t going to start because like maybe it was hot? but it started. does that sound like something unusual? thanks again, i just wanna correct the problem before it gets colder out. thanks arthur

Well compression looks good. checking timing would be a good idea. Even better is if you had a scanner and you can check the timing under different load situations and spark retard. Other than checking fuel pressure about the only other thing you could do is run fuel system cleaner through the gas tank. Maybe this engine is putting out all it has for the mileage? TBI's are not particularly very powerful.

hi, yea i will try to get to the mechanic saturday morning, to check the timing. i had a 1988 silverado about 4 years ago, with the same size engine. i had 31" super swampers and i could spin, and power brake that truck very easy. it had i think around 147,000 miles on it. that`s why i can`t believe this truck with it`s stock tires 265/75/16 can`t spin the tires. i`m dumb founded. it`s not like i`m beating on the truck, i just wanted to see if it could spin, and when it didn`t i was like what the hell. that`s why i did the tune up. plugs, wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve, fuel filter. i even bought a short air intake to see if that would wake it up, and i installed a cat back with a 40 series flowmaster also, and still no power. i even installed the lucas fuel injector clener twice already, and still nothing. thanks again

ok, went to the mechanic on tuesday. told him to check the timing because of no power, as i was told from here it could be the timing. he had my truck for about 3 hours, he told me the egr valve was shot, and the egr valve silenoid was clogged with carbon. and he said he used his smoke machine to check for vaccum leaks. and there was no leaks. and he said he advanced the timing a hair. to me the truck still seems about the same as when i brang it down to him. still cant spin the tire unless i put it to the floor, and it still would hardly spin. so he charged me $323.65 for a egr valve, egr silenoid, advancing the timing a hair, and no vaccum leaks. and i don`t know if he checked the fuel pressure. but i think i payed all that money for nothing. still seems the same to me. i guess that`s all the power that this truck has. that`s ashame. i hope a f150 don`t pull up on the side of me to race. it won`t be fun. thanks guys for all your help, i`ll listen for more suggestion`s from you. thanks arthur

I think if you had cheaper tires it might spin.
