My Car Artasaenz 04-05-2003, 10:04 PM Hello, Just thought I post some art I have done. I wanted to see what people think. I used marker, pastel, color pencil, graphite and photoshop. Thanks for checking them out and giving some input. al http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/626060F50gtrshow_tell.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/840989mitsushow_tell.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/576627sevenshow_tell.jpg MancuZ28 04-05-2003, 10:41 PM Wow. Those are pretty damn beautiful. I especially love the Ferrari. Do you use an existing picture for reference, or just do it completely from scratch? Either way, really good stuff! 94SolGrl 04-05-2003, 11:04 PM sweeeeeeeet. I'm just now getting the hang of drawing cars that look realistic.. hard stuff.. then again, I draw toons, so all my cars kinda have that slightly dramatic look. :D Nice drawings! :) Dr.AK 04-06-2003, 05:39 AM  i really love that rx7 btw. those windows are godlike  simdel1 04-06-2003, 05:56 AM hey. i also draw cars, but im not quite as good as you yet. just a few questions. what markers do you use and how many do you have.? do you use marker paper, or just normal paper? what size paper do you use? have you ever used an airbrush? i havent done that many coloured drawings recently, so i cant show you mine...unless i dig up some that i did 2 years ago when i was learning asaenz 04-06-2003, 08:31 AM Hello, Thank you so much for the kind remarks everyone. Below I have answered some questions First I must give credit. I read the book How to Draw Cars Like a Pro by Thom Taylor I also have a 2000 year calender by the same author/artist Mr. Taylor Originally posted by simdel1 hey. i also draw cars, but im not quite as good as you yet. just a few questions. what markers do you use and how many do you have.? do you use marker paper, or just normal paper? what size paper do you use? have you ever used an airbrush? i havent done that many coloured drawings recently, so i cant show you mine...unless i dig up some that i did 2 years ago when i was learning I do use reference photos. I beleive you must unless you have the cars memorized or something. I think even the experts use reference photos unless they are simply designing a new car. I ask folks in the model car gallery forum if I can use their photos for references. Technically you should ask the photographer. I use Prisma Color markers (don't buy sets buy the colors you need) If your locol store does not have the colors you want order them online. I used misterart.com try to order 30$ worth so you make good use of the shipping charges. I have about 20 markers I use 14x17 Strathmore Bristol Vellum, I am going to try Bristol Smooth also (Remember check your local art store first) I do not use an air brush. The pastels allow me to get an airbursh look with out one. I use 14x17 because that is the size of the scanner I have access to. I do the artwork first, scan it, and then mess with it in Photoshop. Look at the RX-7 it almost looks like water color. Well I did that using the filters in Photoshop. I am not that good with Photoshop but I am learning. I am 28yrs old and I cannot believe I wasted all those art classes and years (high school) doing just pencil and pen. I have even had the Thom Taylor book since 1997 and just started to apply his teachings. So please start using color it is so much better. These are the first color works I have every done. I did the graphite mitsu first to warm up my ark skills. Thanks again al supratuner 04-06-2003, 11:19 AM thats pretty good, i like the 3000 gt! simdel1 04-06-2003, 02:57 PM Originally posted by asaenz Hello, Thank you so much for the kind remarks everyone. I hope you plan to put those skills to use in the real world. You could be a customizer at a local customs paint shop. And if its something you love to do, why not have fun while making money. ghostchild316 04-07-2003, 04:26 PM Hey I'm an artist too! but I post 99% of the time in the 240sx forum. Heres a little somethin I drew in math class instead of doing my work. I never drew some rims(couldnt nake up my mind on what kind to draw) All hand drawn.I used color pencils, lead pencil, and a felt tip pen. No computer. I am not that creative I just draw what I see. Hopefully you can get a digital copy of your scratcboard works so everyone can see it. Thank you al ghostchild316 04-09-2003, 10:40 PM Nice Silvia. I was never good at cartoons. That takes a lot more imagination. I am not that creative I just draw what I see. I used to be like that.Just keep trying you'll eventually get it. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!! I also used to do graffiti art(till I got suspended from school for "tagging" but thats another story...) That kind of helped me in becoming a bit more creative :D blazed on haze :\ 04-14-2003, 05:42 AM wow, awesome art dude!! Jimster 04-15-2003, 06:38 AM The 3000GT is the one that tickles my fancy the most- and the F50 gets honorable mention- all the pictures are fantastic :D asaenz 04-15-2003, 07:20 AM I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for checking my art out, and giving some nice responses I am currently working on a R34 Skyline. Hopefully it will be done in a week or so. Thanks again al SuPeRcAr_MaN 04-15-2003, 02:03 PM Hey, those are some very nice drawings. I was wondering what you do to them with Photoshop??? I also draw cars, but I never color them with fear of messing them up... asaenz 04-15-2003, 06:18 PM Hey Supercar_man In photoshop I mostly clean them up. With the "green Rx-7" I used smart blur and it kind of made it look like a water color work. I plan on doing engines also and then using them as backgrounds for my cars. This will require two scans per work and then using phothoshop to combine everything into one work. I do not know if you read my post or not but, for the longest time I only worked with pencil and pen/ink. I now have started to work with color. Color is so much better. Start trying some. Your point is valid "fear of messing up" The trick is to do your line drawing with pencil then erase with a gum eraser (neadable eraser) to where you can barely see it and then go over the drawing with color pencil basically an out line only, then I lay down the marker ink and finish with pastels. If you are interested check out the book How to draw cars like a pro by. Thom Taylor. Obviously there are more steps then I listed. see my other posts You can find it at your local book store or better yet go to your county library and ask for it if they don't have it they will get it even if they have to buy it, trust me. You and or your parents pay county taxes for libraries to get books that patrons want. Wow I guess I type to much :) Take care al Originally posted by SuPeRcAr_MaN Hey, those are some very nice drawings. I was wondering what you do to them with Photoshop??? I also draw cars, but I never color them with fear of messing them up... Nookie_Monster 04-16-2003, 12:02 AM those are fucking amazing i've drawn a few cars off the top of my head but none are anywhere near that good. i wish i could show them to you guys but i have no way of putting them onto the computer. SuPeRcAr_MaN 04-16-2003, 07:58 PM Asaenz , thanks a lot for the reply... am actually thinking of just starting but doing shading (with normal lead pencils). I have seen it done, and it looks good if done right. If that goes well, I will probably try colored pencils, then eventually markers and pastels. asaenz 04-16-2003, 08:23 PM Ok Supercar_man You need these essentials in order to get good pencil drawings -mechanical pencil with 2B lead get that from an office supply store or maybe an art store. -Paper stumps aka tortillions (hard paper wrapped into little joint looking things) you get that at the local art store -and of course your need eraser (play dough) Use the stumps to do your smears or gradual fades. And have fine sandpaper to sand the stumps into fine points for fine work and what not plus it cleans them. I did not have the stumps for all of the mitsu. I had them for the front ground effects, which came out pretty well. Take care al Originally posted by SuPeRcAr_MaN Asaenz , thanks a lot for the reply... am actually thinking of just starting but doing shading (with normal lead pencils). I will go look for those things you mentioned, and try to do this. I'll let you know how it turns out, if it's not too bad. ;) ghostchild316 04-27-2003, 04:39 PM Originally posted by asaenz Nice Silvia. I was never good at cartoons. Thanks ghostchild316 asaenz 04-28-2003, 08:05 AM Hey ghostchild316 You should start a new thread with your picture so more people will see it. Give it some cool title like "Top Secrete Supra" Just a thought. asaenz ghostchild316 04-28-2003, 08:15 PM Yeah I did this in my drawing and painting class. I scanned the picture then I had to downsize it. Oh and about a new thread,I'll give it a try:) ghostchild316 05-10-2003, 05:47 PM How come this thread wasn't moved to the hand drawn section? Ok I know that was lame. I am feeling good right now I made straight A:s in my courses. Well, many of us have read a book called. How to Draw Cars Like a Pro by Thom Taylor. People here are in the process of putting tutorials together so other folks can learn how to draw and render cars. Our forum is new so we are still getting things together for it. I am in the process of writing a FAQ for this forum. Anyway welcome to the "Sketching and Drawing" forum. al SuPeRcAr_MaN 05-12-2003, 04:26 PM I just uploaded a picture of one of my drawings to the link in my sig. It is a Viper I did in school a while ago. I copied it off a pretty crappy pic, and I know it isn't the best. I will be sure to take a picture of other drawings when I get a chance. Let me know what you think and be honest. (Link in sig: 'Drawings and Models' section) ghostchild316 05-12-2003, 05:02 PM You can really tell it's a Viper so it's not bad.Almost looks like a viper/truck crossover:D I never really read any books on drawing cars,I just use my own techniques I developed. Also I think doing graffiti art really helped me become more creative;) WhiteBlur 05-12-2003, 09:33 PM nice scratchboard:D (edited and done) ghost i really like it ghostchild316 05-13-2003, 12:57 AM Thanks. ;) ridin_on_rails 05-13-2003, 02:26 PM Oh damn, very nice drawings fellas. Import_Tuner 08-10-2003, 05:46 PM Hey I try to draw cartoon cars, but i gve up on that now ;) im now trying to draw realistic looking cars. I will post my attempts soon. asaenz 08-10-2003, 09:19 PM Thx again to you kind folks for your replies. I was shocked when someone resurrected this thread. Anyway thanks everyone, I mean it. al I got another Skyline in the making. I call it the SS R-34 (Saenz Sport) I thought it would be cool to make a skyline that would be like my signature or something kind of like all the japanese tunners who deck out there cars to where you know it is a Signal or TopSecrete because ot the color scheme they use. Here is what I got planned. All black R-34 w/ some nice chrome rims medium deepdish and perhaps a side stripe with my logo in it. I know it is kind of coping Signal but hey I like the stripes on the side. Perhaps I will change the stripe up a little bit. Or my other idea was all black R-34 white rims and white stripe with Saenz Artworks logo (avatar) Anyway take care al madman159 08-11-2003, 08:04 PM your choice asaenz, keep us posted on how its going perhaps with a phew pics of it in the making. 95corsy 08-12-2003, 11:20 AM dayum! im lovin the 3000GT and the F50! nice job dude metal 01-18-2004, 03:11 AM Oh my god....I hate to bump an old thread (wow this really IS old!) but I just saw these while I was searching for something and....WOW...just WOW...Awesome work! r34-gts 01-25-2004, 07:31 PM man that rx 7 is just unbelievable. r34-gts 01-25-2004, 07:32 PM man this is the 4th time ive come back to look at that rx 7 HighOctaneNOSUser 01-25-2004, 08:03 PM Yeah, and we care why? I read a book about shading and drawing portraits by Lee Hammond and applied it to cars. My graphite has greatly improved since then. Reading and application was the key that really improved my renderings. Thx to everyone else too who showed interest and checked out my work. al quarter_mile 04-09-2004, 10:44 AM wow, old topic! but lucky because I never got to comment on your work!
