99 V6 Alero Fan whats up?ringo7 09-09-2009, 02:05 PM The Alero has No Radiator Fan,Until I turned Air-Cond. on;Then there is Fan but 1/2 Speed? What is Your Suggestion? Update: Thursday 10 Sept; I replaced the #2 Cooling fan Relay; I now have full speed at both Fans when I select Cold Air;Good I do not have any Fan without Air-Conditioner;I Replaced #1 Fan Relay: Either Relay no good, or something else;I will test the new Relay tomorrow;-----------The temp at 220 and no Fan; I saw something else today. If I select Air-Cond. at 220 Fans come on,if I turn off Air-Cond; at mid Range Temp they will stay Engaged until I turn Ign. Key to off; When I turn key back to Start and release to run.No Fans ,although at 220 degrees they should come on; Both Relays are in the Power Box in Eng Compartment; BNaylor 09-09-2009, 11:00 PM That is normal. The two cooling fans turn on initially in low speed depending on certain parameters. Without A/C on the fans are not supposed to turn on until the engine coolant temperature reaches around 220 degrees F which the fans turn on in low speed and 230 degrees F high speed. What issue are you having? Any overheating? ringo7 09-11-2009, 03:02 PM I noticed this when I drove Wife's Car--I saw the temp rise above the normal operating range-so I turned on Air-Conditioner,Because there is Higher Fan Speed, car dropped to normal; The #1 Relay did fix the Speed Fan;good,I told her it was drive able, but only if She keeps the Air-Cond on; I am still in the Troubleshoot on this; That was a 4 Prong Relay that corrected Low Speed fan with air-Cond on;The other Relay #2 Fan has 5 prongs. The new one may be bad, I don't think I did a good test-I may replace the #2 Relay 20 dollars, the only other thing I can think of is the P.C.M. that one cost; I asked wife about this,She didn't know there was a Problem, Women notice Gas Gage; Two Years ago Someone drove Lincoln and it Overtemp; I spent 2 weeks Replacing Blown Head Gasket; vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
