Hello again!

After I got tired of looking at the 1/24 911 '88 turbo without the Fuchs wheels I decided to give it a try
with a serious transformation into 934 RSR.

I'll make it fully open if I'll have the nerves for it, of course. Modifications started with the side mirrors
which were horrible. I couldn't make a quick bild so I said: "why not?? :)" and found a perfect "big brother"
to look at - the 934 RSR.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip01.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip02.jpg

Here is the engine cover opening:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip03.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip04.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip05.jpg

I will use the chassy engine for basis because it looks good enough from the bottom side - the top is up to me...

This is the turbo I intend to use for the 6-cylinder air supply:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip07-1.jpg

Because I don't have the engine room, the engine build is on hold:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip08-1.jpg

I grinded of the shocks mount to make an easier firewall mounting:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip09.jpg

Then I made the shelf (top of the engine room) to make myself some guidelines for the engine build.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip10.jpg

Because I needed the sides of the engine room, I cut out the drivers doors. I think it'll be easier to make
the sides of the interior in one piece (from engine to the doors).
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip11.jpg

Shelf is the weekest part at the moment but it'll be just fine when I mount the sides of the engine.

Bufff. Be careful, your knife becomes alive and it´s cutting your model by several sides :naughty:

This project promises a lot. You must solve what your knife has cut :iceslolan:iceslolan

Put your kit in save before you find other panel cut...

hej this looks like to be a fun thread to follow :)

Very interesting and intriguing start - looking forward to seeing more  (hopefully someone will get the new post email notification system fixed one day :p )

Why not simply build the Heller (Esci) 934?

I didn't buy the Heller's 934 for many reasons like:
- it's price! The cheapest would cost me around 40€ with postage.
- incorrect or bad rims which have to be replaced,
- bad quality kit,
- because I had a 930 turbo at home and I got the appropriate rims from a friend (Tamiya BMW 635)

Thanks for watching and your comments! :)

And no I'm not the one selling it.

I agree with the rest of your reasons though.
I've got a project in mind and I'll build mine using the Esci body and the Fujimi chassis, interior and engine + some scratchbuilt parts to make it a full detail kit. That is when I'll have enough time for it.

Still I'm looking very much forward to see your work on this mod.

Thank you for pointing out this cheap Heller jano11. I was two hours late for that one but I don't
think that I would actually buy it because of the economical reasons. My stash was growing until
6 months ago when I realised that I have collected enough material for 15 years of building. :) Most of
it has low detail level which means they will be "time eaters" but the rest of the stash includes well made
models (Accurate miniatures, Gunze, Rememoratrise) that also deserve special treatment at build...
Sounds like a neverending story.

I'll try and make my mods detachable from the original kit to cast them and use them for other sponsor versions of 934RSR.

You're not the only one. I think I have enough models for my whole life, even for a very very long one. ;)

That sounds like a great idea. Looking forward to see more of your work.

Here is a small update of the interior. I removed the original "back seats" from the chassy and started
to make my own.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip15.jpg

This is the stage before putty therapy which will fill all of the small gaps and
after sanding hopefully show some more resemblance to the original interior on the fourth photo.
The change is also visible on the bottom side of chassy when I compared it to the old photos.

The rear seats are filled and waiting for the putty to dry up. That's when I'll hit the sandpaper and
take away all of the excess putty and make some structure on the bottom of the "seats".

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip16.jpg

I also made a photo of the bottom side of the chassy so that you could see what I was writing about in
the previous post. :)
The twisted yellow things are masking tapes wrapped around the chassy so the putty wouldn't stay
on the chassy (where the rear swingarms are mounted).

Here I am again going forth with this build of 1/24th Porsche 934 RSR.
This build has been stuck because of the finish on the 1/24th Lexus IS350
I was working on for past few months.

I was tired of painting so I thought of this Porsche which quickly
remembered me that it's all about scratchbulding here.
I simply felt the desire to cut some styrene so that's why I cut
off the hood. It took me a few minutes because I finally bought the right
tools (Crazy Modelers large saws that fit into small Olfa knife)...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip18.jpg

The next thing to cut :evillol: were the sides of the "luggage" compartment.
I used 1mm thick styrene to make the sides:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip19.jpg

Because I want the front to look as real as possible I had to reproduce
the supporting shelf for the reservoairs and other usefull stuff. I sketched
some holes to get real looking proportions (at least I tried to do so ;) ):
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip20.jpg

A bit of tease before unveiling...

TA-DA!

Of course I'm not making the trunk compartment up so that's why I'm using
this photo as a reference (restoration of Wollek's 934 (http://www.freisinger-motorsport.de/porsche/uk/Porsche_Restoration_Detail/9.html) from Freisinger Motorsport):

This is how it looks like now (still a loooooonnng waaay to gooooooo):

This is today's progress and though I didn't spend too much time
on it (approx. 3hrs) it looks more attractive comparing to previous photos.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip24.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip25.jpg

I also have to think in advance because every modification of the trunk
("firewall" if referred as the front mounted engine model) shows in the interior.
That's why I had to cut the dashboard to it's final dimensions to design
the trunk correctly.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say - my English is bad... :)

Cool build, I'm liking the realism you're achieving with the scratchbuilding... looks great!

Thanks a lot for your compliments!
Here is a bit of new progress on the 1/24th 934RSR.

After small adaptions of the dashboard I felt like I need some time away from the trunk and the rest of the interior so I started the modification of the RSR turbo tail.

Here's the dashboard with styrene filled main vents and removed vent from the drivers side. I simply used the "blank" leftovers of the previously cut part of the dashboard.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Porsche%20934%20RSR/pors934wip28.jpg

And here's the tail in the middle of the modification. Both of the fins are already sanded to correct shape but I still have to wait for the glue to cure. It's still smelly when I sand towards the centre of the styrene sculpture. :)
The next problem is because I'm not sure what to use for the vent "ribs" - styrene or metal...

Thanks for watching!

Here are some pics of the current state of the 934 RSR.
The wing is sanded down to shape but I still have to fit
it onto the body and shape it some more.
Gas cap on the body was filled with styrene and so were
the holes of the directional lights. I don't know how I managed
to cut the hood so faulty but the 0.5mm thick styrene is there
to fix the mistake. This styrene is actually very handy. :)

Is there a set of rims & tires to buy which can be placed on
the 934 RSR without modifications of the rims?
I have a set of rims of Tamiya's M635CSi but I don't have
the appropriate tires and I would also have to make a lip on
the rear rims.
Is there an alternative?
