Radio Reception

Do others have radio reception issues.

Just curious as mine is terrible. FM is better than AM. Basic stock am/fm CD

I have also noticed poor reception. It has gotten better on the FM band since I upgraded to my Pioneer head unit but I still notice some issues (particularly with the AM band). I am not sure if it has something to do with the integrated rear window antenna. Does anyone have any suggestions about this?

Mine has never been tremendous either, I also always figured it was the antenna in the window.

My only suggestion would be to try out an aftermarket antenna of some kind. Also, you dont happen to have a whole bunch of crap hanging from your rear-view mirror do you? Im fairly certain the antenna is in the front window, not the back, though I could be wrong, or it might be both.

The intrigue has a rear window antenna system, nothing to do with the front window.

Is it poor reception all the time, or when the rear defogger is on? Microscopic cracks in the rear defog grid can cause electrical interference with the radio reception. Of course, if this were the case you would find the rear window defog performance lacking.

Other possible causes would be cracks in the antenna grid, antenna amplifier not working, loose antenna cable...that's about all I can think of right now.

if you replace your head-unit, you need to make sure the 'power antenna' wire is hooked up, it powers the antenna module for the rear glass. without it powered up your antenna is as good as the piece of wire running through your car....

This thread kind of makes me laugh because i was just thinking how GOOD my radio reception was the other night scanning for some distant stations...maybe its a common issue for the fuse to blow or the antenna module to burn out? maybe the small wires in the glass become damaged after window tinting etc..?

My 2000 GLS has the Bose system, and I've always been impressed by it, including both the sound quality and the radio sensitivity. I always figure I may be getting better sound than with my home system.
For some reason, most of the bulbs in the control unit suddenly burned out a couple years ago. I replaced them with bulbs from Radio Shack. Don't know why so many of them burned out like that.
BTW, I have been trying to reply to this post for a couple days, but kept getting "database errors" when I tried to log in.
Anyway, to answer the OP's question, good radio reception with my radio.

I think the antenna is located behind the drivers side C pillar you can see it if you remove the trim.

When my radios reception gets bad even on the good stations which it shouldnt be unless theres bad weather. I pull out the center vents and move the antenna wire on my aftermarket HU then its was good again but I do that once in a while.

The reception isn't good and I dislike external antennas all 98 intrigues had them. I would prefer a short antenna on the outside top center off the rear windshield that looks good.

No, it's indeed embedded in the rear windshield as others have mentioned. The top element is the antenna and the bottom is the heating element. If you're having reception problems, you'll find the antenna connection at top of the window in the center. Make sure someone hasn't pulled it off.

My reception has always been pretty decent. However, with HD radio it's not the best. My HD signal constantly drops out in areas where it shouldn't be a problem. Very annoying.
