Unessicary wear on clutch due to breaking?Kevingolshani 09-03-2009, 06:13 PM So i've noticed that im wearing out my cluth a lot more often than other people. Some are saying its the way I brake to a full stop. I was taught to dump the clutch, press the breaks, come to a stop and still hold the clutch pedal down while stopped. Someone told me that method wears out the clutch and i should put it into neutral when I want to break. My question is what exactly should I be doing to break and not wear my clutch out faster than usual? What if I only want to slow down a ilttle bit and not come to a stop? Basically any information involing a manual transmition and breaking would be helpful Cheers inafogg 09-03-2009, 07:14 PM the way you're driving is'nt wearing down the clutch if anything you're wearing down the pressure plate & bearing.you could put it in neutral & release pedal when coming to a stop or just down shift if not completely stopping Kevingolshani 09-03-2009, 07:18 PM Okay thats helpful, so my clutch problems arent from braking. Greenblurr93 09-21-2009, 09:53 AM No, that can wear the bearing faster, but not the clutch plate. Its most likely you havent learned the ideal way to drive a standard shift car. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
