I am needing to put rear brake pads on my 99 GMC sierra 2500 4x4. Is there any special tools or can they be done like the front? Thanks

Typically with a Pad or Shoe replacement you shouldn't need a thing. Just make sure you have something to compress the caliper if you are doing a pads & hub job; and also think about turning the hubs if you have let the pads wear to thin. Good Luck

Sorry.... I mean rotors, not hubs

Check the slides too, known for freezing right up.If the slides are badly froze up,get loaded calipers which come with a new caliper bracket.

I just did this to my 2000 GMC 1500 and tried to get by without replacing the calipers, they froze up .. BUT I saved so much time by not getting the calipers, I had enough time to do it twice and do it right ! Moral.. do it right the first time.

The new caliper brackets do not come with the slides and are purchased seperatly.I have never seen a new caliper braket come with the slides and that ticks me off
