Hi everyone,
Bought a 96 SL2 1.9 for my sons first car.
Was having trouble starting cold. Changed downstream O2 sensor as well as coolant sensor for new brass one. Removed coil packs and module to verify for corrosion etc. re-installed, car started great but cylinders 1 and 4 on coil 1 won't fire. Switched coils around, bought used set and moved them around, same problem. Car has new plugs and wires. I pull plug wire 1 or 4 while running, no change in engine. Ii pull 2 or 3 and it stalls.
Give me some news!
Phil.

How many miles on the engine? Do you have SES light on? Are you not getting any spark to the cylinders 1&4 - i.e checked physically for spark?

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply.
Fortunetly, I have solved the problem.
I had purchased new cables, plugs, used coils with module, and a new coolant sensor (the old one was cracked). Replaced all, moved coils, plugs and cables around, still no 1 and 4 spark. I noticed that wire E to the harness had been cut and bypassed, probably for the remote starter. Someone said the wire should not be cut, but only spliced into. I found the cut off end, re soldered it and bingo, everything is great. The wire must have broken off when I originally removed the coil pack to check it. Just goes to show that it is sometimes the simplest thing.

Thanks again,
Phil.
