Still having transmission problems

As I posted before, this started with a blinking overdrive light. I took it to the shop and they rebuilt the transmission for $2200. My wife does not drive very far so after a week or so when we drove a distance and the car was warm the transmission downshifted hard into first. I took it back to the shop and they said it was a solenoid pack. That didnt work so they replaced an intake device of some sort. That didnt fix it, so now they are saying that the computer may need to be "flashed", and they do not do that there so I will have to pay a dealer to do it. This is definatly not the same problem I originaly had fixed. Has anyone else had an experience like this? My mountaineer is an 02 with a v8.

Are you sure it's in first and not second gear? Do the gears change if you manually shift between 1 and 2 on the shift lever? It might be in limp home mode due to a sensor issue or other. Was the "intake device" possibly the input shaft speed sensor?

Is the ABS light on by chance? The vehicle speed is derived from the ABS wheel speed sensor and if there is a problem with the vehicle speed signal, it will impact transmission shifting.

I'm not a transmission guy and I don't yet have much experience with my 2004 Mountaineer to offer a lot of hands-on experience with this issue, hopefully someone with experience and reading this post will chime in. You could also try searching the Explorer forum since the powertrain is the same as the Mountaineer.

The ABS light is not on, and the "intake device", I dont remember anything about speed when they told me what it was. I believe it is downshifting hard between second first. The shop has an appointment today to "flash"
the computer so I hope that fixes it or we will know more today.

Well I just got my mountaineer back from the transmission shop, they could not figure out the problem so the put another one in. It seems to be working fine, and I have a two year warrenty on it so hopefully no more problems.
