starting my rear brake project on the 2000 1500 silverado I went to advanced auto to get the rebuilt calipers...the oem calipers were getting too tight ...

I was shocked to find the condition of these parts as totally unacceptible...pistons damaged,,,caliper housing corroded like it was removed from the titanic...

I when to 5 stores in my area all junk...

I then went to autozone and was happy to see the quality I was looking for...brought them home and tested for binding before install and they worked perfectly....

these calipers are used on some other vehicles cadilac, and astro I believe...

I had problems finding the right size. They kept trying to give me dual piston calipers. Plus there are 2 sizes of rear rotors.

I use calipers from lake county parts warehouse, just have to grease them before install.

I always test the piston of the caliper for proper travel ease...using a manual air pump with 50psi to push off the piston about 1 inch then by hand push back fully..found all defective...autozone caliper worked perfectly,,,and as I stated before was not corroded severely...advance auto also when you return the defective part just puts it back on the shelf...this is not good...

I'm not aware of that supplier in my area,,,but autozone is the best for this part..

sounds like they gave you the 2500 rear calipers...those are the good ones,,,and are not part of the defective rear brakes I have had to deal with since 2000...

The 1/2 ton avalanches have two pistion calipers.Another thing to check on them are the slides, they freeze up which are a common problem and the only option is to get loaded calipers
