Hi guys,

This is my new project, the 1979 F1 World Champion Ferrari 312 T4. Even though Jody Scheckter won the championship, I will do the car nš 12 from Gilles Villeneuve.

Now, the kit is 90% done, but until today I haven't found the time to post the WIP photos of it, but I'll show you a lot of images of all the work I've done.

First of all, here's the kit:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/010.jpg

These are the aluminium air funnel from Studio27:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/019.jpg

And here's the beginning of everything. First of all, I put some putty to the chassis and sanded it:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/021.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/039.jpg

Then, I primed the chassis with light grey, and then, I added more putty and sanded it again:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/041.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/042.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/048.jpg

Unluckily, I have no pictures of the chassis painted with Chrome Silver, so in the next photos I covered the whole chassis to paint the suspension arms in black:

That's all for now. More to come soon.

Hi guys,

First of all, thank you for your comments!

And now, some more photos. I have painted the seat as it is said in the instruction manual (black with a white part in the back), even though I have seen images where the seat is black or blue.
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/054.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/081.jpg

I have masked again the chassis, to paint some zones with Metallic Grey:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/062.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/064.jpg

I have removed the belts from the fire extinguisher and the air bottle, and i have scratch built them:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/058.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/059.jpg

And this is the result, with the chassis painted and the new belts of the fire extinguisher and the air bottle:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/070.jpg

And finally, I have done some labels for the switch box from the left of the cockpit:

Hi guys,

Here you have more photos of the cockpit, now with the seat with the belts assembled:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/095.jpg

Some detail of the front part of the cockpit:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/113.jpg

And the steering wheel:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/097.jpg

And finally the dashboard. For this kit, I have used a technique that I have learnt from Robrex: I have replaced the copper wire that I have used until now for sewing thread. It is much easier to handle, and the result is also good. Apart from this, you can reproduce thinner wires. And I have also replaced the 1mm transparent wire from Tamiya for 0.5mm fishing wire, that reproduce better the original ones.

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/106.jpg

I have added some connectors to the switch box (I have added more in the final steps). I have also added three plastic covers in the dashboard:

Nice! I love those colors you came up with for the engine. An old trick the ship modelers use when working with thread is to run it over a bar of bee's wax to reduce "fuzz". A candle stump would probably work also.

Thank you for the tip. The wiring job is already finished for this kit, but for sure that I'll try it for the next one!!

Hi guys,

I've been a little bit busy these last days, and now I've found the time to most some more photos. Let's start with the engine:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/169.jpg

I have replaced the original transparent tubing for fishing wire, and I bought the black tube that you can see in a shoe shop, to replace the original one:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/172.jpg

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/206.jpg

I have done some modifications in order to fit the aluminium air funnel:
http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/208.jpg

There are some steps that I have no photos... :(, and this is what comes next:

http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr281/kimi4623/Ferrari%20312%20T4/211.jpg

Here, I have used solder wire to create some parts:

Freaking awesome job. I'm working on the same model at the moment. Is this the end of the photos for the 312T4? I'd love to see some more - Do you have any finished shots of the engine? I'm particularly intersted in where all the wires and hoses start and finish.

Hi everyone, new to the forum. I'm building the same kit at the moment and this is about where I am up to with it:-

You're making a great job of yours, very impressed with the detailing. I have been waiting for the studio 27 turned velocity stacks that I see you have - mine just arrived today. The walls of the kit items seem too thick to me as you can see in the photos

Looks like you have been busy! Your work looks great. How do the Revell models compare to the Tamiya? I see they have a nice silver Audi LeMans car i wouldn't mind tackling! It might be hard to go back to doing 1/24 scale though after building this 1/12 scale! Your Honda looks good by the way - I almost bought that one instead of the Ferrari 312 T4. Thanks for sharing your photos.

These are some more photos of work i just did. I thought these may help others who want to add additional detail to the model, beyond what the model gives you. I had to modify the wiring and hoses at the front after building this because the nose piece wouldn't fit! Doh! I scratch built the rear hydraulic harness. I have to modify some stuff to fit it in though. I added the diagonal support arm for the radiator (made out of a paperclip!). I had to cut away a portion of the body shell to allow it to fit around the arm.

I also had to build this center piece for the front:
