'01 Alero Gauges and AC don't work.

My car is an '01 Alero with a 3.4L engine. I attempted to fix my passlock issues by trying the "resistor" fix. After doing the key relearn procedure, the car starts, runs, and drives without issue.

However, now my entire gauge cluster will not work nor will my air conditioning. I checked for blown fuses and I found one 10A fuse associated with the AC system that was blown. I replaced it, but still no AC.

I can't find any fuses related to my gauge panel, so I don't even know where to start there.

I removed the stereo and the HVAC controls to access the passlock wiring, but I know I plugged all that stuff back in when I put it all back together.

Any ideas??

Here's an update. I decided to double check my work. Turns out there's two identical female receptacles, one in the HVAC controls, and one in the back of the radio. I foolishly plugged the one meant for the HVAC into the back of the stereo. That and replacement of the fuse gave me back my AC. So that's one down.

Question is what kind of damage did I do because the gauges still don't work. Again, can't find a fuse for the gauges, so any info will be much appreciated. Just as a point of info, the gauge lights work and when you start the car the DTC lights come on momentarily and then go out.

Well I managed to figure it all out with the help of a power distribution diagram provided to me a few months back by "Iflylow". Seems there is a 10A fuse for "IPC" or instrument panel cluster located in the bottom right hand corner of the drivers side dash board fuse box. That's all.

I am pretty sure the passlock wires go to the middle plug on the BCM directly under the glovebox. Remove black kickpad up there the slide BCM over and it will fall down. If your sick of the theft light issue you can do a little bypass so it starts all of the time. Do this, with the car running snip the solid yellow wire at the middle plug of the bcm, ok car is still running but with theft light on. Now let it run for a minuite tape the end of the wires up and shut the car off. It will now start up all the time, but with a theft light on. You will want to put a switch in there because if you ever remove the battery without first fixing the wires or switching it on first you'll be screwed, and if you sell the car its easier to do it without a theft light on! So putting a switch in there would be handy.

Hey! I guess i should start by telling you that i know nothing about cars. But I have an 01 Alero, and I've been having the same problem as you none of the gauges on my dashboard work - the back lights still work but not the gauges. I looked at the fuse you changed and mine was blown - but when I changed it nothing happened. So i looked at the other fuse that said IPC and it wasn't blown, but the edges were burned do you know what that means? Another thing - whenever it rains my car won't start for a couple of days. Have you ever had this problem? Can you tell i'm clueless?:iceslolan
