2003 2500 hd lost blower settings 1,2,3,4. Replaced the blower resistor still only blows on 5. Please help. I assume the blower motor has gone bad but if there is anything else i need to check that would be great. All fuses are good.

All the blower motor cares about is how much voltage it has coming to it. If it works on high that it is good.

Do you have a manual or automatic heater controls?

the actual switch is also replaceable, I know this for a fact as I had to change mine. it is supposed to be a non replace able part but you can buy the switch itself for $25. I have the part number if you want it. alot of times if the switch goers bad that is what burns up the resistor, I have seen this in impalas also, also the same switch uptill 04 on them.

I believe if the resistor goes bad the switch gets damaged,,,but if the fuse is the correct size it should not take out the switch...

thats why I stated to re-check the fuses with a meter....

there are 2 fuses in this blower ckt..25A/ and 30A...

check the car body resistor connector for damage ..

Well i checked fuses (not with a meter as i have to pick one up tomorrow) I only have the one fuse in the cab. There is a RR HVAC under the hood but no fuse. Never has been a fuse. I checked the connections and found that on the old resistor it was melted very slightly on the A and B female end. I then checked the male end and it all looked good.

The blower motor could also be seizing up so bad that it will only turn at the higher speed. Usually what will happen is the motor will start to seize up causing too much resistance on the resistors therefore blowing them.

check the fuse /relay box under the hood in the PCM area

I still cant find a blown fuse. I have noticed a "click" now when i turn it up to 5. The click is towards the middle of the dash. I put a fluke test light up to the plug going into the resistor pack, turned the key on and ran it thru all the settings and all i got was a flashing red light. I dont think i am getting power to the resistor pack.

the blower motor is not hard to replace just remove from under the glove box...after its out check that it rotates freely and nothing is binding the fan...then apply 12volts to the blower motor and check for operation...this could very well be a bad connection...

test lights have there uses but you gotta get a volt-ohm meter...they are cheap and are usefull for far more repairs than auto's..

yep i put a meter on the connector. 11.8v on all settings 1-5 to the restisor pack.

well when you pull motor see if the motor wires have 12volts across them..then with voltage to motor input wires and it don't run you know for sure the motor is open...

or motor armature has locked up..
