I asked this question in the FAQ a couple days ago, and it hasn't gotten a large, detailed response, so I'll ask it in a new thread:
What is a surefire way I could get the SR into my 98 240 and have it pass? And about how much would it cost?
Also, keeping the horsepower at decent figures with the modifications, something permanent that I could keep on the 240 to pass emissions over and over again.

Thanks Guys,
Any help is needed,

Dorikin

There IS NO WAY to do it surefire..the SR is a dirty engine, not designed to pass US emissions...why do you think the DET was never exproted here???

you can make anything pass emissions...

ohio isn't that strict in regards to the emissions laws, and they don't look under the hood.

you could get it done.

where in NEO are you?

I just thought that they didn't think anyone would buy it, like it was their marketing peopel that lever let it over here. I always thought Japan's emissions and especially Australia's were stricter. Also, if you go to www.nissan.com.au you'll find that the "200SX" is still sold new with the sr20det and sr20de.

Kirtland if you've heard of it. About 15 minutes from Cleveland.

Also, someone's been telling me that in order to pass emissions, I have to run the engine lean (with the cat). I don't want to do that because I would have to switch back and forth. Is there a way to pass without running it lean?

THIS EXCITES ME! What year is your car and do you know the year of your engine except the very general statement of 91-94? I was thinking about just painting my KA so it still looks nice before it oxidizes like my dad's 95 Altima KA did, but since this revelation occurred, I can start thinking about an SR swap again! Hooray!:silly2: :smoka: :bandit:

skylines are legal in all states...

if you import it and have it legalized to be driven in the US.
if it's smog legal in cali, it's smog legal anywhere.

i've got a test pipe instead of a cat, and i've got to switch it to the cat when i E check.

we do these things. get over it...

the minor inconvenience is worth it to deal with retuning for a day.

i'm not quite sure that running lean is the answer though...

the shop i deal with www.slickmotorsports.com (in north olmstead)
is about to do an sr20det convo on a 240.

you can email matt there and ask him his opinion on what it takes to get it legal...

and i'm sure halyoder can help too...

my car is a 91 240sx coupe and i have a red top out of a 180 i know cause i got a front clip. when i got e-check i had stock exhaust, fmic, greddy pulleys, upgraded fuel pump,no aiv, stock boost, that was about it. but now i got some other things do don't know if it would pass now but in 2 years i will find out:D .

:)

just run it hard before you take it to e-check.... real hard. that will burn all the air pollution chemical stuff so the environmentalists are happy

wow, a thread full of ohioans...

and another clevelander no less...

damn...

like halyoder said, as long as your smog stuff (cat) is in place, you're not going to have much of a problem...

just take it out later...

hey wasssssup..

we should have a c-town 240 meet.. up at turbofour on superior. i've never been there but a guy just told me there are some 240s up there all the time.

this friday or saturday? im down for it, i have nothing to do.

flylwsi
04-09-2003, 07:23 PM
i would go, but i'm not a 240 guy.
turbofour is a nice little place, but that's about it.
they don't do their own installs, and they are basically a shop to order parts through... they farm their installs out to other people...
and they close by the time i'm out of work...

if you wanna meet up... common grounds on lorain and rocky river is where i hang out...
me and my friend with a s/c'd 97 jetta...

pm me about it...

later

skylines weren't imported due to a lack of a market for them (didnt think it would be competitive against mustang, camaro, vette, etc.) and when the japan power wars were going on (300zx, skyline, & supra) the US just wasnt into it. anyway if you want one, infinity G35 = r35 skyline (right off the http://www.nissan.co.jp/SKYLINE/V35/0301/LINEUP/index.html official nissan website)

That's crazy that you mention Turbofour, because today I was driving to Panera's Bread in Mentor, and I saw a Black S13 with the words "TURBOFOUR" written at the top of the windshield.
What do they sell? Do they do the 5-speed swap, because I need to get that done. I didn't purchase my car, as it is automatic, it only had 19k miles when I got it. I plan to do a 5-speed swap soon. Looking for a place... Anyway original question: Does turbofour do the 5-speed swap?

:bloated: :bloated: lack of a market for them?? The US never gets the best cars outa Japan. This "japan power wars" you mentioned was between the manufactures, US is not japan so its irrelevant. And the Skyline not being competitive against the mustang camaro?!!!?:bloated: :bloated: The RB it self is in a league of its own, not to mention the Skyline is a technical marvel, the skyline is a super computer on wheels. And yes the G35 is labeled as the Skyline in japan, but we are talking about the real Skyline, not sure about you but do you feel the heart and soul of a Skyline in a G35... But then again we didnt get the Skyline back in the day because we already had the 300zx and the SE-R powered cars back then. No point in bringing the skyline over IMG

i've never been to turbofour, that's why i really wanted to check it out. but i think its just a parts store, they dont do sr swaps. there is a place downtown i believe that does an sr swap in 1 day.... yes, one day. im not sure how much it costs tho..........

what car do you have flywsi? honda si? i occasionally am around rocky river and stuff to drive around but thats it. i just came across a jetta with a huge tach, gauges, etc. but im not sure its that fast because i was keeping up with him through the streets. he took some wicked turns going about 30 down the sidestreets tho, my car's tires just skid and i wipe out, lol. maybe it'll be better when i install new struts and coilovers next week.

turbo four can get great parts, but they don't do installs.

the shop i mentioned, www.slickmotorsports.com in North Olmstead can do the swap, and is in the process (of doing one as we speak)

i've got a yellow 89 prelude si.

more details later if you'd like.

not sure on a jetta like that, i've never seen one...

my friends jetta is on bbs rims and super sleeper...

i'm always around and driving, and my car is easy to spot... yellow, gun metal wheels with a polished lip... i can't hide...

in regards to there not being a market for skylines...
not the case.
the problem was more in the emissions and what it would cost to legalize the cars (crash testing as well)
at a time when the US was not that interested in foreign (JDM) sports cars...
witness the demise of the 300zx, the supra, the rx7, the 3000gt...

the rb26 was dropped b/c it was such a bear to keep emissions legal in japan, imagine what that means for US emissions.

nissan was also challenged monetarily for a while, which is why the car didn't come here...

and please don't tell us the g35 is the skyline, b/c we all know that.

the g35 is the v35 skyline, but not the r35 (gt-r)

gt-r will most likely come over as it's own car... not an iteration of the g35.

also, mynismo...

i was just looking at your pics of your car...

our cars look eerily similar... both have flip ups, long hoods, short decks, gun metal wheels with polished rims...

damn...

scary... except mine's a honda...
but hey... nobody is perfect...
