Yes and it will be nice to see how these different makes will develop. I already have 0.5 mm veneer to put on the rim :grinyes:

About the summer of white ´58 Testarossas, I´m not sure. I remember one being made last year...phhh.

1/12th scale ? WHOA! I just finished my Hasegawa TR. MG Model Plus just released a 1/12th scale TR that Von Neumann ran at Riverside.

After some consideration I decided to construct the aft chassis in brass instead of plastic tubing. Although plastic is better to work with, brass gives more strenght.

I started with a brass bulkhead to have a solid connection point for the brass tubing. I also use the resin aft part for the right measurement as a kind of mould for the brass parts.

The drawing I made is now a template for the bending of the brass tubing

...and the mould I use for dryfitting. After I soldered the beams I was not very satisfied: the diameter of the tube was to much ( I knew already:grinyes:) and the connection to the bulkhead was crappy. I removed everything and started all over with the new 6 mm tubing.

In my second attempt I soldered a connection point ( made from a thinner tube) where I could slide the 6mm tube over the smaller one. It makes it much more easy to align the 6mm tube.

@Tom: "brave" is my middle name :icon16: :icon16: It is my first time...we will see were we end. It is a great creation and a great model but the aft part is a definitely a minus so I will try and enhance it.

@Mike: It is rather ambitious but I build it already in my head :) and every part fits :iceslolan So everything will be alright.

Finally! An update on the MG. I was beginning to think you were pulling our leg (kidding us) about working on that engine. Good outcome from a really rough looking set of parts you had to work with. I like your scratch work on the distributors. Your front waterlines look good too. I was trying to figure out how they connect into the radiator and your photo helped a lot.

@Martin This Autograph engine is a complete other league. It is in my stockpile too waiting to be put in the Revell GTO. Comparing to this one it is a smooth clean kit.

After the engine the work on the "hump" had to start. A rather important job for me...considering I have never done it and some other projects were dependant of the success of my coppersmith skills. Among them is making in copper of the upper part of the 1:8 ARNO IX hydroplane with ferrari Engine

I started with a piece of copper (no brass because copper is more flexible)

I quit after two attempts and started working with 2 half pieces of copper. After bending, shaping and coppersmithing I could solder both parts together

and with coppersmith tools I shaped in its definitive form

I was satisfied with this try out and confident in my coppersmith skills so I put the cutter in the resin.

It wasn´t a sharp cut so I used a copper frame, screws and milliput (epoxy putty)

Nice progress Ton. Good solution for the hump dividing it in two like that. You probably already know this but copper hardens as its worked and has to be annealed periodically to restore ductility or it will crack.

My progress is moving about as fast as molasses in a blizzard. Working on the hinges and looking at get a HRM engine. Once I do those I'll put an update on here.

The lid of the trunk/boot is ready now. A book from 1893 and the books of Gerald Wingrove ( http://web.mac.com/gawingrove/iWeb/Home%20Page/Home%20Page%20.html) helped me a lot with the coppersmithing .

First the copper (brass is to hard) is annealed so it becomes softer. The first shape I have done with my fingers. Than I put some "wrinkles" in the copper where a curve should come. With a small hammer the "wrinkles" are hammered out and this is repeated a several times with this result

This is a rather time consuming project. Compared to the F40 project I now have to design and create every added part myself. :D

Last 2 weeks I have been busy with remodelling the tubular chassis and the seats. On the picture you can see the (drawn) parts which I removed or modified.

On the picture you see leather and foam which I planned to use for upholstery. But it looked awful, to much curves.
So it was time for plan B: the paint and brush

After giving it a first coat it looked much than the leather

However the "leather" is too glossy, so it is matted and piping is added.

The seats are ready and I am quite satisfied with the result

The last picture show the aft part after demolishing the old tubular chassis and with the axle added. Now the resin is removed and I gave to model the differential

I removed the old chassis because it was to wide and the wheels hardly fitted

Yes the resin is very thick on the aft side of the car. In the front it is more subtle

(a bit off-topic: Stefano Corsini is selling a white metal engine kit for your Arno project. A bit pricey but wow what an engine. He had full access to the real one when he made the patterns.)

It is in my stack already for a couple months :smile: I had a nice deal when I also bought the Porsche engine :cool: This is one of projects I also like to do but...a lot of scratchwork as long as they don´t issue their transkit. But maybe my next project because that one is a nice straight build. I have seen the pictures on which the kit is based on ..........hundreds!

A little progress again ...this is a very slow project :cry:

This week I made the differential and removed the resin aft.
The problem with the differential is that there is no decent reference material. The only pictures I found are these: the lowest is a picture of the real car, upper right is an earlier model and left is the Hiro model.

There is little space for the springs between the wheels and the chassis..and this is the way it is solved.

The springs are mounted on the inside now (without consent of Enzo 8) )
The springs won´t keep the axle in place so we need some kind of device (really don´t know the name)

This looks outstanding, my friend. You should just take it to the next level and "hammer" out an entire copper body for it, using the resin body as a buck. Seems you have the capabilities with the success of the trunk lid... then you could build an entire brass frame and... oh well, maybe not. Food for thought, though...:)

Perseverance? Are you kidding??... you just spent like 2 years on the F40! You have plenty of perseverance!!!:) A brass frame would be a nice upgrade, though. You'd have to thin down the resin body, I'm sure, to keep things looking correct, which is what made me think of the copper body. Scale-wise, it would be very close to correct in thickness... but it makes a mountainous project out of this build... kind of like the F40, no?:biggrin:

you just spent like 2 years on the F40! The F40 was another piece of cake: it was a top high end assembly project...but hammering a new body is a major scratch build job where you have to "invent" everything yourself. Now I sometimes have big issues with myself abiut the current build ( yes you go on...no I stop...you go on ...I stop) :rofl:

a brass frame would be a nice upgradeBut not as part of the current kit but as a separate frame with engine, wheels, tank in the same display !
