Hello fellows of modeling!
It's been a while since my last project (F2007 - Bahrain - F. Massa) and now I'm back to present my current project.
I've been inspired by ScaleMaster and his GT90 in racing scheme. Because I have GT40 (Mk.I and Mk.II) and a Ford GT,
I wanted to make this one a part of the Ford's racing history. White just wasn't good enough for me. :iceslolan

I'll let photos do the talking...

My goal scheme is '66 GT40 mkII:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/ford_gt40_head_300408.jpg

GT90 parts:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_01.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_02.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_03.jpg

Low quality decals (matrix printer - dots in the color):
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_04.jpg

It fits together like a glove but I didn't like the molded-in spoiler so it had to come off. I also cleared out the molded vents to make it look smarter. :)

...here's the spoiler:

Rear end glued into place:

...styrene base in progress:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_09.jpg

The styrene needed some putty to get into the right shape (left side is sanded down):
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_10.jpg

Because of the incorrect shape of the triangle shape I had to add just a little bit more putty (I sound like I like it  ):
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_11.jpg

I used pencil to see the incorrections:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_12.jpg

Vents are sanded and the front panels sealed because the original were simply horrible:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_13.jpg

This is the part I cut out and after I put a Dremel onto it:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_14.jpg

This is the spoiler mock-up with Tamiya tape:

The most difficult car part to handle:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_18.jpg

I also started to fit the vents which go together............well it's AMT. :-?

-fitting of ALU tube

Drilled out the fog lights for the 3mm LED:

-after
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_29.jpg

I'll use red 3mm LED on the rear but I used yellow one for testfit:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_30.jpg

And the editing of the flaws of the putty (lots of it):

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_27.jpg

After hours of sanding and lots of putty I finally managed to lay a coat of Zero's semi-gloss black onto the GT40 wannabe:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_34.jpg

Yellow car with black stripes??? :-|
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_36.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_37.jpg

Tamiya Chrome Silver:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_38.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_39.jpg

Because the straight lines look too traditional for GT90, I decided to smoothen the edges:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_40.jpg

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_44.jpg

After a few days of drying out in the display case I put on the decals (GT90 + white circles):
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_41.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_42.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_43.jpg

Because of defective decals (ALPS's fault) I have to correct the white areas:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_45.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_46.jpg

These are the PE tank covers I'm going to use:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_47.jpg

The pieces on the far left are the side vents in CrazyModeler's carbon...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_48.jpg

The "black" part is in carbon, the gear shifter and surroundings have been de-chromed and painted black.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_49.jpg

Seats will be hand painted from this point on.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_50.jpg

I did some preshading on the interior but there isn't much to show.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_51.jpg

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_59.jpg

Because the brown (Revell matt no.#88) is enamel based color I also had to use the enamel for the belts and the belt mechanism. I used dark olive enamel
to wash the seats but I kinda exagerated with the wash. That's why I didn't use wash on the rest of interior - it was just too neat for this kind of a operation.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_57.jpg

As you can see on the next photo it would be best to paint black the seatbelt's holes on the seat too:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_58.jpg

I didn't give much attention to the engine - the silver is BMF pieces glued on the pipes and logos. Screws on the engine are Tamiya chrome silver and a little wash
can be seen on the engine which I had to use. Nothing much...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_56.jpg

Here's the painted body, clearcoated with Zero's 2k.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_60.jpg

I did a mockup of body and interior.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_63.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_62.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_64.jpg

After a period without time and enthusiasm for modeling I finally made some progress. I masked off the window and started the work on the front air vent.
The air vent on the chassis needs a bigger space, so I put some putty on it to make a bigger vent. After I applied the putty I started to mask off the windows
to airbrush some Zero's semi-gloss black onto them. The surface is matted to make a better grip with the paint - I used a special sand "paper" for that.
It looks like the rough side ot the kitchen spunge.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_65.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_66.jpg

I used the body to mask the windows properly.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_67.jpg

After chrome silver:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_68.jpg

Masking tape on the body is for paint protection when dryfitting the chassy. What do you think about it now? :)

Wow!!! You went from a so, so kit to an amazing piece of work! Now I am trying to think how I could build something with that kit of effect!

Wow, you did an awesome job with that kit! Looking forward to seeing more of it.

I saw this build on spc, great progress. I like how you faded the black onto the silver! You are doing a fantastic job with this horrible kit. Only thing i would've done would be to sand down the seat belts and add pe ones, but either way they came out sweet.

Thank you all for comments! I was planning to sand the belts off MidMazar but it would give additional problems. The seats
have a teksture and I'd have to recreate that texture. It'd take a lot of time to do that and this kit is simply not worth it.
It already is a time eating monster. I started to work on this kit in the end of February and it supposed to be a snap-on kit.

Yesterday a friend from our local forum gave me a very nice gift. He is so excited over my black GT90 that he gave me
his GT40. It is in bad shape (the decals are starting to peel off because it is without paint and clear). It's only glued together and
I hope I won't have much problems with it. They'll look great together. :D

damn man, when i first stated looking at the pics i wasnt overly impressed with the car, never really been a fan of the gt90... but wow, what you have done with it is pretty cool, i love the what you did with the paint

Thank you ravan17! :)

Here I am with some progress again. I managed to widen the front air vent and put some color on it. The engine cover which was clear part like the windows
was painted black. Mainly because it didn't look like a real race car with a clear engine cover. I was actually deciding between carbon and this kinda cover.
I took this choice because the big piece of carbon would have destroyed the classy look of the car. I will also paint the silver stripes on the cover tomorrow.

Pics:

I used Tamiya's Titanium Gold for the center of the rims:

Wow, stunning work on an average kit, Youve given me plently of ideas on how to fix my GT90!!! Love the stripes!!!!!

It's nice to hear my work is inspiring. :) Many famous writers and other great people didn't live that long to hear
those kind of words da_ashman. Thanks!

The roof and engine cover have received a clearcoat with tamiya X22 clear. Now I have to wait a few days
for it to harden which won't be hard on 30°C. :) In the meanwhile I'll try to improve the main cooler in front
to make it look more attractive (a few posts up).

Woah! Super cool! I've not seen one of these kits built so well! I LOVE what you've done with it so far. I can't wait to see what else is coming, it's a surprise at every turn. I am surprised you stuck with the kit wheels, though, I always thought them to be the weak point of the whole concept. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot wilimo for a motivating comment!

I've found myself in a small dilema with the wing... I don't know which one to use because they both fit
this GT90. Stock because it is stock :) and the GT wing because of it's racing background:
- tamiya w1ngs (I'm thinking about the look like on this Gallardo (http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/1815/gallreader23eh.jpg) which wing is mounted on the rear)
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_81.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_80.jpg

- stock (I think it's a bit too small to push the massive rear down)
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_83.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_82.jpg

I've decided to make the model without GT wing because it's too late to do such mods, especially now when the body has clear on it.
That's why I sanded the body with P2000 -> P4000 -> P6000 -> P8000 -> P12000 and polish it with Tamiya's Finish polish paste.
It'll be waxed today (also Tamiya) and then I might show you the pics of finished model. :)

Left side of the rear is still in it's smooth, lacquered state and the rest is sanded with P2000:
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_84.jpg

I was very afraid that this label didn't get overspray of clear but I'm pleased with the outcome: :D
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o299/giantstormer/Ford%20GT90/wip_gt90_85.jpg

Glass is a bit clouded because it's made out of soft kind of plastics. I'll give it a try with Fine and Finish polish and
if it still won't work, I'll have to give it a go with Glänzer (also known as "Future"). :-?
