Car slowed suddenly and started making clicking sounds in drive. Will drive slowly in lesser gear. Is this a transmission issue and should I flush it and install new filter before anything else? Thanks

Likely it is a trans issue, and my guess, in this case, a flush and filter will not help. Probably there is some internal damage, which can only be fixed with a rebuild or getting a used replacement trans from a wrecking yard.
I suggest taking it to a transmission shop or mechanic and see what (s)he says. If you like, let us know so we can tell you if it sounds legit.
