05' bouncing when braking

I have a 05' Silverado 5.3 that the rear end is bouncing when I hit the brakes. I cant figure why. I replaced the front and rear brakes and turned the front discs and rear drums. The brake job did not help, and the pedal feels fine. I have also just put new tires on and this did not help the bouncing either. It only does it when I hit the brakes. The shocks seem to be fine as well. Any Ideas?:banghead:

does it bounce, or shimmy and vibrate like a rotor/drum type of deal. I can see something abs making it vibrate, but if it is actually bouncing I'd look for something broke or bent on the rear suspension/axle.

It is actually bouncing and bucking, that the best way I can describe it. I inspected everything I could see under the truck but there is nothing that looks to be broke or loose.

this could be a bad rear wheel bearing....

I also own an 05 and have the same problem. It feels like wheel hop when u brake. Had the drums turned but that didn't help. I was thinking either shocks,u-joints or bearings. It does it with both sets of tires and rims I run on my truck. Is there an easy way to check u-joints and wheel bearings? It's really getting annoying by the way.

Well you can jack up the rear axle, get the tire off of the ground and see if there is any movement at all. If there is movement of the tire and not the suspension, you probably have a bad axle bearing. With the leaf spring there, any suspension movement should be difficult. To check the shocks you can either bounce on the bumper with the truck sitting normally or disconnect one end of the shock and see how it moves. If it is easy to move or the truck bounces and keeps bouncing you should look into some shocks.

I jacked it up and checked for bad axel bearings, everything was tight so I took a chance on new shocks, I went with the Monroe Reflex from O'reiley. Problem solved, no more bouncing when braking. One of the shocks I took off the truck was sticking and not acting right.

thats good you solved your problem....the use of these monroe shocks however I have seen are cheap and don't last...

Both brands come with a lifetime warranty, so if they do fail, you take them back for a free replacement. O'Reilly keeps a record of all your purchases using your phone number, but be sure to keep your receipt just in case.

I researched both shocks and found the Rancho RS5000 is more for off road applications and a little stiff for my taste although the Reflex is more stiff than the Sensatrac but the Sensatrac is more for cars and light trucks from what I have read. I am very happy with the reflex so far, it is a far better ride than the stock shocks. last year monroe shocks were installed in my sons truck,,next week we plan on replacing all of them...

this time,,, with them only in for a year,, it will be much easier..

Mine turned out to be warped front rotors on my 05. Mechanic said that I should have felt it in my steering as well but I have a little play in my steering so I didn't feel it. My understanding is that put a harmonic shake through the frame and made it feel like wheel hop in the rear. Maybe I should look into the play in my steering... Any suggestions?
