My dad has an 1989 Deville and the air conditioner needs charged. I see Walmart has bottles of 134 with the hose for 20 bucks. If the system has not been converted over to the 134 can I shoot in the 134 or will the old coolant not mix with the new? Thanks

A depleted system needs to be serviced properly.

The leak needs to be repaired, or else all the new refrigerant will leak out.

Also, the system needs to be evacuated (all the air and moisture sucked out) before the new refrigerant goes in, or else the system will not work properly.

Finally, old R-12 systems need to be converted to R-134. I believe the lubricant for the compressor (which is mixed with the refrigerant) is different........ and finally, you may find the R-134 hose will not work on the R-12 system valve.
