Ferrari F2007 Chinese GP (Thinned!!)

Hi all, currently im working on this Champion Machine.. F2007. I have got my MFH version but decide to keep it for collection instead. Therefore i got myself into the Revell kit. I can only say one thing about this kit. It is bloody THICK! I believe those who have work on this before will know what i mean. I have decided to give it a thorough THINNING! Besides that there are many areas that i need to add and modify to the Chinese GP since the kit is the presentation version. Although the instructions did mention gave different setup configuration parts but they too are not really up to accuracy standards. Well, enough grumbling, let me explain some of the things i have done along the way.

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/5815/dsc00868rur.jpg

Look at this lines, they are WRONG, it should be lowered and stretches all the way till the exhaust area, need to fill them up
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5110/dsc00866f.jpg

At the late seasons GP there are extra vents near the exhaust, therefore they are drilled and inserted with brass plates. Still not accurate in my opinion but thats a tedious one, im not gg to redo them
http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/8882/dsc00878f.jpg

Thinned side fin by sanding
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/402/dsc00881g.jpg

Thinned another erected fin, added and modified front cameras to almost accurate size.

Close up of cameras

Covered some side vents to replicate Chinese GP version

Lines carved
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/9693/dsc00891ruz.jpg

Now going to modify the rear fin of the body cowling with some putty added
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/8038/dsc00892e.jpg

Removed the original part, replaced with aluminum sheets
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/38/dsc00900.jpg

Modified by using brass sheets and some sanding to thin down certain area, not quite done yet
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/3374/dsc00902ogm.jpg

This part is ridiculosly thick, used aluminum sheet to replicate
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/504/dsc00903n.jpg

Thats all for now, stay tuned for more.

Quite heavy plastic surgery! Nice start!

Good start!

Yes, I know what you mean, usually Revell kit have this kind of problem about thickness of plastic.

One question.. what kind of putty did you use to close the vents on the right side of the cowling? it seems a very smooth execution...

Fujimi will release the F2007 in 1/20th scale so why not simply wait for it?!

I used the Tamiya quick type putty.

Haha i am going to get that too. Just that i have never tried a Revell kit before, so wana give it a try but too bad, i just cant stand the inaccuracies. Therefore i gave it a plastic sugery.

Thanks

Great work so far, sucks that the kit is a little on the "heavy" side, nice work on the thinning. Cant wait to see more

Very nice work. I am also working on a Revell F2007 kit. Its ok for the early season races. I wonder if this is Revell's last F1 kit?

Serious approach Ro, I like so much. Your efforts will pay at the end on the bodywork for sure... but the Revell's tires look just terrible :frown:

Thanks for all the comments so far! Actually im really struggling to correct all the inaccuracies, just too many of them. I think in the end i may have to make do with some, but i will still try my best. Im really slow on the progress and im sick of the unpainted look, i just want to get it painted soon. Anyway, thanks all who like this progress and it will give me more motivation tomorrow. :)

Yes, i started this kit some week's ago. But to be honest, the kit is not so great. The hole kit is fat and not korekt ( example : the engine cowling ) and needs a lot of shawing and sending...
You are very careful at any details and i like the way how you work .

An very small update. Decaled the body with sponsors and cleared with Zero 2K clear. The colour is an acceptable match to several reference photos but stilll slightly on the red side when compared to other photos. I guess i will add more orange to my paint mixture the next time. The two pictures i have is taken at different lighting to show the difference and accuracy of the colour.

Hi guys finally time for the last update before i will move it to the completed section. This is completed up to 95% except for adding the antenna, more tires markings and weathering since its a car at the end of the race, etc..

Still not totally happy with the red paint, no matter how long i look at it, it just doesnt satisfy me totally. Frustrating.. Nevertheless, im going to show you guys the different color effect due to different lighting condition. More ORANGE the next time when i'm going to build my MFH or Fujimi kit! BTW, i just realized my rear tires were inserted on the wrong sides, they should be reversed!! Well i will get it mix when i get back this weekend. :)

Hi Roland! Your model is very nice , modifications, painting, decaling is excellent! But i have the feeling that this Revell Kit is wrong in sizes! If i compare the fotos of the real car or other kits ( like Studio 27 or MFH ) i have the feeling that the kit is very flat! Maybe it is so because the rear wing sits to low??? And the front tyres are to close to the front wings!

Hi thanks for the comments! Well regarding the flatness i feel its still relatively correct when i compare to my collection of pictures but i will have to agree with you regarding the front wheels, it sits too front but it applies only to the right side, not to the left one. The left wheel has a gap of approximately 1.5mm between itself n front wing. I wondered why too but im afraid of adjusting the front wings as they are quite vulnerable. So i kept it this way. I will show the left wheel pictures in my completed thread. Thanks once again
