i have an 86 22r pickup with about 135000 on it. about two years ago i was driving up a hill and went over a bump and the radiator hit something and created a hole. i hadnt known it was missing a bolt, so it was loose.
anyway i drove literally 100 feet from the bump and looked at the temp gauge and it had jumped up to the red almost instantly. then the engine shut down. all this happend before i knew what was going on. needless to the thing hasnt run since then.
i did a little bit of work on it, but i learned that 22r's have a tendency to overheat and destroy the block by leaking through the timing cover or something. there was coolant in the oil when i drained it.
i have spark, fuel, not sure about compression, i never checked it, but anybody got any "tsb's" or advice, maybe someone has dealt with it b4.
im not sure what to do with it, becuz i love the truck, its scrap is like 200, and a new engine is at least 1000, which i dont really have right now.
i would like to believe that anything that is broken is fixable. so please send me some knowledge.
thanks

If you ran it too long while hot you may have blown the head gasket and/or cracked the head. Do you remember if there was white smoke coming out of the tailpipe? That's an indication that you are burning coolant as a result.

The other thing is the timing chain. With age it develops slack in it, allowing it to slap against the timing chain cover, wearing a hole thru it. This allows coolant and oil to mix, and bearings don't like coolant in the oil.

yeah, the head gasket was blown.
there was coolant in the oil, and im gonna get a new timing cover.
apreciate the advice.
