Need help on finding short?

My son has a 94 Deville that has a short in it. What we've done already is use a digital volt meter with the negative lead on the battery post and the positive lead on the battery cable. Battery charge is 12.5 volts, we get a draw between the negative post and negative cable of 12.3. We've pulled every fuse, maxi fuse and the relays under the maxi fuse with no change the the amount of volts. Is there any other relays we could try? Is it possible that the alternator or starter are shorted and is there a way to eliminate them from the circuit or test them.

We're pretty much at a standstill until we come up with something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Did you pull the fuses from the auxiliary panel in the trunk? It's located in the trunk, behind the rear seat.

As you suggest, a bad alternator or (more likely) bad starter can also do this. It's quite easy to unplug and remove the leads to the alternator (3 wires, I believe) and to unbolt the starter wires, then see if the draw is still there.

If you have a standard '94 DeVille with the 4.9, it's quite easy to get to the starter. The Concours model has the 4.6 Northstar, it's starter is underneath the intake manifold, which is more difficult to reach.

We've pulled all the fuses and relays (under hood, truck) that we could find. I haven't had time to disconnect the alternator and starter. Hopefully it's one or the other.
