2003 silverado rear brakes

I read a thread on squeaky brakes for a silverado. I have another question on the rear disc brakes. I just changed them out due to wear down to the wear sensor. I have replaced them before about 4 years ago. i pull a 5th wheel and wear pads more then normal. when I went to put the pads in they went in very tight. I actually had to take a hammer and tap them in. the last time i changed them i dont remember having to do that. when i compare the pads it looks as the new ones have rough ridges on the ends. could this be what is making them tight? I read on that thread to file the pads down till them move easily. should I take them back off and file them down? I thought they were the wrong pads but they look exactly the same. I am going on a trip next week so i was going to bring it in and have a mechanic check them. but if all i have to do is file them down i could do that myself and save some money. anyone else have this problem?

thanks in advance for your reply

this is correct the pads need filing, very poor quality from china crap...oem is the same...bendix ...file the edges till the pads slide easy...
NO FORCE FITTING....

thanks icat I took them back off and ground down the roughness. its like they have no quality control in china. I had another question. there is a wear sensor on all the pads i usually only see one on each wheel. does it matter how the sensors are installed? both on top, one on top one on bottom? I wouldnt think it would matter when it gets that bad that you get to that point you need new pads anyway.

thanks for the advice:tongue:

I can't remember exactly/also some pads are not with these wear indicators...

as long as the pads fit properly and move smoothly in the holder/caliper you will be fine...

I also coat the pad backing metal with a paste anti seize compound. this will prevent pad noise. make sure that the caliper piston seal is properly seated so that it will not get damaged...

oh my! i had exactly same issue, and i do not buy cheap anything. i do remember grinding down some on those pads.
this is not a problem. what pissed me off, that with pads guides and pins liberally lubricated, there was very little caliper slide back and for. almost none. ain't right. i have no objective signs of any problems, but it's against anything i have ever done and seen on other cars.
