98 seville sls, a few problems

98 seville sls, 92,000 miles.

1. i have a weird vibration when im driving at a constant speed,in overdrive, or coasting. not exactly like a mis, but more like its just running rough. doesnt do it when im accelerating, just at constant speeds and coasting. it ever so lightly idles rough, also.

2. just before shifting gears, it will burst foward like it hit a powerband or something. im normally very easy with the throttle, so its very noticable when it happens. im slowly accelerating, then zoom, a moment later it will shift.

3. another constant speed issue. when im crusing down the road, it will slightly get on the gas, then off. its like when in cruise control, going up a hill, you can notice the car getting on the gas, going down, it will get off. but im not in cruise control, flat road, foot steady, and no jumps in rpm.

4. i had an alignment done and it still pulls to the right.

the only codes are with the rss dealing with the air ride.

:runaround:

Welcome to AF. Just some suggestions here:

1. This possibly is bad engine or transmission mounts, or possibly your CV joints are starting to go bad.

2 and 3. Possibly a bad throttle position sensor and/or an intake manifold leak.

4. Was the wheel alignment a 2-wheel alignment or a 4-wheel alignment?

If only a 2-wheel was done, get a 4-wheel alignment done.

Also tell the alignment shop about the specific problem so they can look around for possible looseness or damage in the suspension, steering or front subframe mounts.

If everything checks out, it's possible one front tire is bad. Try rotating the tires, front to back AND side to side.

Good luck. :)

thx for replying

1 ive read that the front engine mount goes out frequently on these years seville. its hard to find a mechanic i can trust to check it out.

2 and 3. is there a way to check or test the tps? or will i just have to switch it out and see if it corrects?

4 thx, will have to check that out.

For the TPS, I would suggest getting a second opinion on this before changing it. Usually a bad TPS thows a code (but not always), so I think a re-scan for codes and a test - drive by a decent mechanic may be in order.

When re-reading your post (and thinking about my own Caddy) some other things come to mind:

Your car should have a valet switch, in the glovebox,, which reduces engine power. Is the valet key switched to VALET or NORMAL position?

Also have you ever changed the spark plugs and plug wires?

valet is off. i ve changed the plugs, not the wires. was thinking of replacing the wires and the ign coils just for the hell of it.

well, i think ive pinpointed the source of a couple of my problems, the a/c. while i was on the hwy feeling my car ease in and out of the throttle, i noticed my air changing temps, get a little warmer, then cool, the warm then cool. turned off the a/c and she started running smooth.. it even accelerated smooth. now i have the source, what could be problem?

well, found out what is wrong with the a/c. took the car to an a/c guy, he put pressure gauges on it. i reved the engine a little and the it went up to 400 psi. :yikes: then the compressor shut itself off, then back on again. i have a blockage in the system somewhere. i'll update what the blockage is if he tells me after its fixed.

Thank you for the update.
That's a new problem, and an interesting explanation for the symptoms. I have never heard of that before.

put the car in today, and got it back today. :pimp: he changed the orifuce(sp?) tube and it seems to be fixed. accelerates evenly and cruises evenly. :bananasmi now on to my front motor mount. :bricks1:
