ignition wire on 84

ok so im putting a new cd player in my car 84 deville, and this isnt the first one ive done or put in this car and the ignition wire is not working im going to just run a whole new wire like i did with the memory wire and the ground the only thing is ive never done a new ignition wire on any car so how do i do this??

You can get 'power taps' from places like Radio Shack. There are two types...... one clips on to an existing wire. You wrap the connector around the wire and insert your new wire, then crimp it with pliers. A small metal clip will pierce the insulation, thus making a connection.

The other method is to use a power tap that clips onto an existing blade-type fuse int eh fuse panel.The new wire simply connects to the power tap.

Finally, you may be able to find an unused terminal on the fuse panel. I have found that often, GM provides such terminals for such custom accessories. One simply uses a male blade-type conncector attached to your new wire and inserts it into the terminal.

Regardless of the method, make sure your power source switches on and off with the ignition key, (so that it is not powered all the time) and install an in-line fuse (10 amp should be fine) in your new power wire.
