98 intrigue 3.8 intake help

hi i have a 98 intrigue with the 3.8 and a few days ago the upper intake manifold exploded. i replaced the manifold and gaskets and the car was running good. then i took it for a test drive (15 min) and it started squealing at stops. then the squealing went away now it only does it when you start it up but stops after like 5 seconds. ive searched a few forums but can't seem to find anything. i did read somewhere that the pcv valve might cause this. or someone told me it could be a spun bearing but then why does it only do it at start up. i was just wonderting if anyone else has had this problem and if they figured out how to fix it. thanks for any advice

did you change the oil? it could have become contaminated with coolant when the intake went on you, also, was it burning coolant before the intake blew?

no i didnt change the oil because i had it changed days before it broke. and it hadnt been burning any coolant.

Change that oil pronto. When oil and coolant mix it becomes acidic and can destroy your engine internals in no time at all.

Personally Id change it with fresh oil, run it for a few days, then change it again, but thats just me.

Its a small expense compared to replacing an engine.

Does it sound like the typical belt squeal? You could have just spilled various fluids on your belt.

ok i was gonna change the oil today but i read on another site guy had similar problem but when he removed his dipstick or oil fill cap his car died. mine does that to for some reason it has a vaccum in the valve covers. i tired this on my other cars and it didnt do it so im pretty sure i have another problem. does anyone know what causes the vaccum in the valve covers
thanks for any help

Did you replace the PCV valve properly? When I did mine back in the day, I actually forgot to put the PCV valve back in entirely, and it made a screaming sound similar to a demon-possessed mountain lion.

ya i forgot mine too. i thought the plastic thing that hooks on the back of the manifold was the pcv because it was plastic and i the one on my civic is plastic. man i feel dumb. anyways my new problem is i can't get the plastic cap that the map sensor sits on back on. so my new questions is can it be put back on with the manifold on the car or do i have to remove the manifold then put the pcv in
i really appreciate your help

also i have another question for you littlehoov you said you did this back in the day. i was wondering if the intake messed with your gauages at all. because before the intake broke the tach and the gas gauge work fine. after i fixed the intake the tach is a slow and the gas guage spun all the way around and now its not moving. ive tried pounding it but that doesn't help.

Ummm no, never had that problem. Mine was a Bonneville though, but even after replacing upper and lower gaskets and upper intake manifold the gauges worked great up until the moment I wrapped it around an electric pole.

I cant even think of what would cause something like that unless you forgot to plug something back in or overlooked a vacuum connection perhaps, or something like that. It would be easy to do on that job.

Could just be pure coincidence as well, but few things in this world are.

there is a recall on the intake of you car call a dealer and see if you can take it to them.
