87 F-150 shuts off after driving for a whiledolfins1a 06-07-2009, 05:38 PM 87 F150 inline 6 cyl. drives for about an hour or so then shuts off and won't restart until it cools down. Just had water pump failure so I replaced pump, thermostat and new temp sensor still has the same problem. Any ideas? patbeechermail 06-07-2009, 05:51 PM When it shuts off and you attempt to restart what does it do? What is your temp when it shuts off? Have you put a code reader on it and if not, do it and post your codes. way2old 06-07-2009, 07:05 PM Sounds like you may have a bad ignition control module. They were bad about failing when they got hot. rhandwor 06-07-2009, 09:10 PM Advance and Auto Zone will check them free for you. Sometimes you need to use a hair dryer and warm them up before they fail. fordtrucksonly 06-08-2009, 12:33 AM Thats if they have the EEC adapter... ICM sounds like a good place to start. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
