so i was given a nice set of 5.25" components, what is the proper speaker size in the front of a 98' with the bose system? as far as i can tell it is 5.25 and these will fit (i hope) Anybody have any tips on how to get to the door speakers (can that pod around the speakers come off or does the entire door panel need to be removed?) it it just clipped in?..
and to get into more technical stuff, anybody know if the bose amp feeds the factory tweeters separately or if they are just wired in with the door speakers..
thanks for anything

I believe they are 5.25, Im almost certain the regular stereo ones are, and I think the Bose system was just an amp and better, not bigger, speakers.

Door panel removal is here:

I dont recall there being a separate wire for the tweeter. I know there is a high-pass filter on the wire. All I need when I replaced mine was to splice in the tweeter wires along with the speaker and my tweeters work fine. Amp or no amp shouldnt make a difference.

Sorry if I cant recollect everything, its been probably 3 years ago since I replaced my speakers.

thanks for that littlehoov...i just got a set of components with their own crossover unit, and i thought if the bose amp acted as a crossover/high pass filter and there was a separate low/mid signal for the speaker and a high frequency signal for the tweeters my new crossover would be useless, but it looks like the bose system just jumps the tweeter off the speaker and puts a simple filter in the line.

How much work was required to mount new tweeters in the factory location?

Oh Im sorry, I didnt clarify.

I retained the use of my factory tweeters by splicing them in with my aftermarket speakers and using the stock hi-pass filter. That was the extent of my modification.

FIY if you have the bose system, the front speakers are actually 6.5" not 5.25"....I bypassed my bose amp by running new speaker wires to the rear of the car, and splicing into the harness for the front speakers. (grey and peach wires front left/ ....dark green and light green wires for the front right) You have to run new speaker wires from the head-unit to the trunk because the bose system uses a common floating ground for the amp, so theres not enough wires just to simply by-pass the amp
